Daily Inspiration: Meet Mango Marketing Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Contrera and Alicia Wiley. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Natty and Alicia met while Natty lived in Baltimore for a few years. They shared a studio together, created photo shoots together, and shared way too much food. Their friendship continued to stay supportive, focused, and business-driven as Natty moved to Philly.

Mango Marketing Co. is a collective, brainstorm-focused, innovative, and challenge-winning team. We’re not here for quick growth; we want to be here for the long haul. We don’t send you off with the same format but customized business steps. We always saw Mango Marketing as an inviting space where we took your business idea and skyrocketed it.

Essentially, we took lemons and made Mango Lemonade out of it!

Natalie is a commercial-focused makeup and hairstylist turned marketing pro. She has spent over a decade in the beauty industry representing brands and educating in the cosmetic industry. Although Natty is still heavily focused on artistry, she is the brains behind marketing strategies, our strongest PR moves, and viral moments on social media for both us and clients.

Alicia is a published wedding and editorial photographer turned website designer. She has spent the last 8+ years creating magazine-worthy images for couples, families, and brands. She is the creative expert behind your website designs, graphic designs, content creation, and professional photography.

Both Co-Founders play an ideal (and strategic) role in the foundation of Mango Marketing Co. Natty and Alicia are similar in their dedication to efficiency and communication with their team and their contractors. The company aligns with their personal values and their focus to help shape women-owned businesses.

We take all sorts of clients at Mango, but we focus on women-owned businesses primarily in the beauty, fashion, and salon industries. We have seen a lot of wedding industry and photography businesses as well. Including Mango has even done strategic marketing planning for other branding companies!

WE VALUE DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION.

WE BELIEVE IN EDUCATION AND STRATEGY OVER VANITY METRICS.

WE ARE ADVOCATES FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, CIVIL RIGHTS, AND EARTH.

WE ARE HERE TO HELP BADASS WOMEN GROW SUCCESSFUL BUSINESSES.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
LOL, No.

Learning to be bosses. Juggling working as a full remote team with an HQ in Baltimore. Our team is from DC to NYC. Both of us still running our other businesses. Natalie being in NYC and Philly. Only working together 2-3 times a month in person so communication is everything. Having two business owners that live two hours from each other and the team adapting to TWO bosses. Childcare issues and having kids in school. Navigating the world through Covid. The list goes on and on but honestly, we’ve accomplished SO much and each “hiccup” or learning lesson, as we call them, has just strengthened us and skyrocketed our brand into the next level.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We are here to help provide successful business growth with an individualized marketing plan. Our strategy is results driven and curating your unique online presence through visual storytelling. Our goal is that clients don’t feel like they have to follow trends but are created methods that feel authentically them.

Our proudest moment at Mango would be within our first three months in business got a client into Elle and Vogue magazine.

The thing that sets us apart from other businesses is our backgrounds. We have such unique backgrounds, and our collective experience creates endless resources for our clients. Not to mention, no one can do beauty marketing better than someone who lives and breathe it daily in their lives.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Alicia grew up in Baltimore. Alicia has always been in charge. She is the oldest daughter. She is always been a helper and has been a leader. Always needed to be organized and a planner to help the younger ones in the house. She has always had a love for being creative and a visual learner.

Natalie grew up in Detroit but bounced around from a few states in her twenties. Natalie and Alicia met during the time she lived in Baltimore. Natalie is the middle child but also grew up as an older sibling since her older sister is almost 10 years older than her. Natalie is more of a creative brain and an ‘ideas’ kid. She was the mischief kid that always pushed the boundaries, as her sister was more sheltered, and her younger brother looked at her for the next step.

Both Natalie and Alicia throughout their childhood into teen years and well into adulthood have been naturally born leaders. They both have owned their other businesses for 8-10+ years. Freelance life and entrepreneurship has guided them not only to their friendship, working relationship but now this new path as a partnership with a forever-growing business.
