Today we’d like to introduce you to Leona McTaggart
Hi Leona, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story begins in a small, rural town in the Western Maryland mountains known as Cresaptown. Growing up, I always had a vivid imagination and always dreamt of doing something exciting with my life other than the status quo of going to college, getting married and having kids. I wanted to turn my “daydreams” into reality and after turning 48 years old, I finally took that extra step to literally make my dreams come true.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hadn’t always been smooth…in order for me to begin my journey, I’ve had to overcome my issues with anxiety and my fear of the “unknown”. I’ve always struggled with going outside of my comfort zone but had to in order to be cast on a hit TV reality cooking competition.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently the Activity Director at Mountain City Rehab Center in Frostburg, Maryland. This is a dream job for me because it allows me to be creative while helping enrich the lives of the residents living there. I am board certified as an advanced activity professional, and this has helped me explore the many different levels of senior care such as senior centers, adult day programs, assisted living and nursing-rehab facilities. I am known for my bubbly personality and energy that I bring to my place of work. On the side, I enjoy “pup”sitting and have an interest/goal of making and selling “Paw”cuterie boards as I feel pets deserve to be pampered and have a meat, cheese and snack board to drink with their char”dog”nay. I am also pursing more work in films and recently filmed a little part in “Hank’s Christmas Wish 3”, a movie byJCFilms.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has played a vital role in my successes as I literally had to be in the right place at the right time for most of my opportunities. Being chosen out of thousands of people for the reality cooking show still amazes me. Getting through the competition and placing runner up amazes me even more! Making friendships with the other contestants at the show opened up many doors and through a good friend/former competitor’s connections, I was cast for the Christmas movie and had the pleasure of filming with actors Dean Cain and Richard Grieco.
