Daily Inspiration: Meet Krystina Monet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystina Monet.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My career started as a published model and beauty industry brand ambassador on YouTube. After graduating high school in 2005 I went to college for 1 year before realizing I belonged in the work field as an artist. Makeup was my first passion so I started working part time for MAC Cosmetics while also being an assistant for a hairstylist in a salon. I decided to go to cosmetology school to become a licensed cosmetologist. Graduated hair school in Feb 2013 and opened my 1st full service beauty salon in Temple Hills, MD in May 2013. Locs To Lashes Salon & Spa, LLC quickly grew and 3 years later I was able to purchase the commercial building the salon is located in.

By then, I specialized in Locs and natural haircare. Became the first self-made millionaire in my family. Taught classes and realized my passion was to help other stylist because I wished someone helped me when I first became an entrepreneur. In 2018 my goal was to help provide jobs in my community. I opened my 2nd location in Waldorf, MD and it’s the first black owned salon in that mall.

In 2019, I branched off into selling beauty products to professionals and opened a warehouse/office in Clinton, MD.

In 2020, during the pandemic, the mall location closed for 3 months and I realized that due to Covid-19 most local stylist preferred salon suites for more privacy so I purchased the building next door to the one I already owned in Temple Hills. That location now has 4 salon suites with self-employed beauty professionals.

Now CEO of 4 beauty salons and 3 other brands I never sleep. lol

Currently, with a net worth of 1.2 mil, my next goal is to retire at 35 and hopefully teach younger entrepreneurs about starting a business, taxes, investments and the importance of saving so that you won’t need loans.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The first 3 years of opening the salon I barely made any profit. Everything I made went towards products and equipment and paying myself back. The hardest part throughout my journey is finding dependable employees with good work ethics. I learned the hard way that most people would rather be your competition than to work as a team.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work 7 days a week as a salon owner and hairstylist mainly specializing in Locs & Loc Extensions. My ambition and strong will to succeed is what I’m most proud of. What sets me apart from others is that I genuinely want to see everyone do well. I see potential in people that they don’t see in themselves and I’m willing to give the less experienced the opportunity to grow with me.

How do you think about happiness?
Seeing my clients satisfied and watching my employees grow professionally and financially is what makes me happy.

Being able to give back to my community gives me purpose.
