Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristie Wolf.
Hi Kristie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When I was a teenager, I read my first romance novel and connected with it so deeply that I immediately told my mother I was going to write one. Over the years, like so many out there, I’ve turned to reading as an escape. The stories transport me to a happy place that lifts my spirits, making bad moods better and good moods great. There is something so freeing about knowing that conflicts can be resolved and love always prevails.
I never let go of that dream of writing a romance novel myself. As I grew into adulthood, I began pursuing what it would take to make that dream a reality. I want nothing more than for readers to fall in love with my characters and get so caught up in what happens next that they forget the world around them. Six manuscripts, an agent, and multiple awards later, I am thrilled to bring that dream fully to fruition in the fall of 2023 with the release of my steamy military romantic suspense, Too Dangerous to Love, Book One in the VIPER Series.
The idea for Too Dangerous to Love came to me when a friend shared a gorgeous book of photographs of veterans who lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan, and I knew these heroes deserved a story. I immediately delved into the plotline of the VIPER series; a top-secret DoD program that outfits special forces amputees with weaponized, superhero-worthy prosthetics that are networked to their brains. I cannot wait to share these characters and their happily-ever-afters with my readers.
Here’s a sneak peek into Book One: Too Dangerous to Love:
The nation’s first super soldier thinks he’s too dangerous to love. The shy genius who helped create him thinks her only value is her brain. Stopping a deadly traitor? No problem. Falling in love? That could be their hardest mission to date.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There is a huge difference between writing books and becoming a novelist! Learning the business side of things is like riding down a road riddled with potholes, it’s all fine and good until one has swallowed me up and I haven’t written in days! Finding the balance is challenging, but a challenge I gladly accept.
While there are many obstacles to navigate, the biggest struggle I face as a novelist is self-doubt. I’m incredibly thankful for the support I’ve received from my family and friends who not only have encouraged me to follow my passion but have been the biggest champions of my work along the way. I’m also overwhelmed by the generosity of the romance writing community. Authors need their tribe, and the talented, compassionate people I’ve connected with encourage me daily to become a better writer and a fearless businesswoman who refuses to give up on her dream.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My heroes and heroines are smart, sexy, strong, and just like the rest of us, vulnerable and flawed. Plotting how they are going to save the day, overcome their internal struggles and grow as a person, and fall in love is challenging and so much fun. I particularly enjoy crafting action scenes that make the reader hold their breath, and writing snarky, heated dialogue that creates page-turning sexual tension.
I’m proud that I base my characters on real-life, loyal, patriotic heroes who serve our country whether in the military, law enforcement, or federal service. Like the VIPER series, my other romantic suspense books have a sci-fi and/or technology aspect. While I can’t troubleshoot my computer, working as a marketing professional in government technology continually provides me with a treasure trove of ideas. I’m fortunate that the wonderful team I work with at FedInsider.com doesn’t mind when I ask military and federal technology leaders what the worst-case scenario is if their agency is attacked. Their chilling answers help craft plots about terrorists hell-bent on harming our country and the heroes that fight for justice while burning up the pages and falling in love.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
I am also excited to expand my Indie-publishing community. As all indie writers know, it takes a village! I am looking forward to connecting with other folks who are working in the writing and publishing-related fields.
