Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Stroman.
Hi Isaiah, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was always an artist first since a kid my mother told me all I would do is spend my time drawing and coloring. Knowing now I have ADHD it was something im sure kept me stimulated. Fast forward to high school I fell in love with portraiture. Id draw portraits for students for pay and I’ve always wanted to make a living off of my art since then. But there was a shift that happened my senior year. Due to my lack of attention to draw for hours I started to lose my passion for drawing as it seemed to have drained me when it became an obligation. So I shifted my focus to the next best thing. Photography was all I wanted to do in 2018 and I thought that was all I was capable of doing. Not until I met a friend named Tyler who introduced me to my mentor Deonte. He motivated and encouraged me to do more and expand on my creativity by getting into video. by late 2019 I shot my first music video and I also did video content for the restaurant I was working for named Jimmys Famous Seafood. I was working there as a bagger but my boss Tony would let me come in on random days just to shoot video and experiment (obviously a win for him). With about 40K followers on instagram he trusted me to make posts and some occasional story post for the restaurant. But I wasn’t fully happy there as I was mainly a bagger. I had a friend of mine named Camilo encourage me to take away the safety net of Jimmys, to venture out and go full time with my talents (and just to inform you I was not that good lol) so I pondered on that and took his advice. the year was 2020 and in October, 1 month before my daughter was born I quit Jimmys. I checked out and went full time in videography doing music videos and from then on I knew what I was meant to do with my life. Self taught in all things I’ve done regarding videography, cinematography and photography and to now make a career out of what I do ive seen it to truly be a gift from God a child who wanted to sell his art that got to do it in a way he didn’t expect.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been smooth, the year that my daughter was born when I went to full time was the most stressful time I had faced. I supported myself the mother of my daughter and of course my baby along with paying an unfair amount of rent due to the people we were living with not paying their portion, that along with car notes and everything in between I started to drown. I got into a car accident losing my car things fell apart in my relationship with my daughters mom it was horrible. But I never lost hope, I never lost my passion through it all I kept going. I got back on my feet with my baby girl by my side and kept building and saving. there were times I got my equipment stolen and even someone stole a whole case of sd cards that held many of my clients videos, times where I couldn’t take my girlfriend (now wife) on a date cause Clients weren’t paying on time, I didn’t have that financial freedom. Fast forward to now im married with 2 boys and my daughter and life Is great! there’s always more to do but when I look back I couldn’t be more grateful.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I know work for Jimmys Famous Seafood as a content creator! I make food content for them and ad content for their e-commerce and retails products. Im most known for my side business which used to be my main business being Stroman Productions. Im known for my music videos mainly with the crazy high energy vfx combined with unique cinematic shots. Im currently most proud of this video I did using green screen for the first time it came out amazing I just love art so much! What I believe sets me apart from others is the fact that there’s nothing I can’t do, no matter what setting you put me in I instantly adapt to whatever style is needed im like a Chameleon. I can never be put in a box im always evolving with every single video I shoot and it’s evident in all of my work. I also don’t do this for the money there’s a deep rooted passion that always shines and keeps people coming back when working with me I love making people look amazing!
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Lighting and framing is the most important thing. Learn how to tell a story with one picture and the more you learn that the easier videography/ cinematography will become. Don’t be a perfectionists. step out of your comfort zone and watch how you’ll improve exponentially
