Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Link.
Hi Erin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
At this moment, I’m a mom of twin 7-year-old girls and a family photographer based in the Baltimore area.
My journey into photography began after having my kids. Like many people, I faced challenges growing my family. So much of my energy went into that process that once our babies arrived, I found myself a bit adrift…like I had to figure out who I was all over again.
I started a small product-based business just to have something that was mine. To help my shop grow, I began taking my own brand photos. As I gained more experience behind the camera, I realized how much I loved photography—not just as a creative outlet, but as a way to connect with other families in my community.
Photography gave me a creative outlet and a sense of individual purpose again. Over time, it grew into a business. Now, I get to photograph families and help them see the beauty in their everyday lives. It’s such a gift to show people how loved they are, and to remind them that their family’s story—just as it is—is worth remembering.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges has been trying to balance the needs of my business with the needs of my family. Being a mom and running a business at the same time means there’s always something (or someone!) needing my attention, and it’s easy to feel stretched thin.
Another big hurdle is being a solo-preneur. I have to cover all the bases for my business – photographer, editor, social media manager, customer service, etc. It can be lonely sometimes, not having coworkers to bounce ideas off of or lean on when things get overwhelming. But even with those challenges, I’m proud of how far I’ve come, and I’m focused on continuing to learn as I go.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a family photographer, I specialize in maternity, newborn, and family sessions. I’m really intentional about how I approach each one…I want the experience to feel relaxed, connected, and real. I tend to work with families who are looking for more than a perfectly posed portrait. They want to see the love, the chaos, the joy, and all those little moments that make their family story theirs.
I used to be a teacher, and that background really helps me guide the process from start to finish. I provide styling help, prep guides, location suggestions—whatever’s needed to help families feel confident and ready. My goal is for them to actually enjoy their time together.
What I’m most proud of is the trust I’ve built with my clients. Many of the families I work with come back year after year, and it’s such an honor to continue being part of their story.
What sets me apart is the level of care and thought I bring to each session. I’m not in this to just snap a few photos and move on. I want my clients to feel seen; and to walk away with something that truly means something to them. And as a mom of twins, I know how fast time moves. I want their session to be a time to pause & recharge…a chance to really be present with their people.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
I think the most important quality has been being genuinely thoughtful…about people, about time, and about the experience I’m creating. I really try to pay attention to what each family needs, and I approach every session with care and intention. That means thinking through the details ahead of time, being patient in the moment, and making sure the end result feels meaningful. I think people can tell when something’s done with care and empathy, and that’s what keeps them coming back.
