Daily Inspiration: Meet Ehinomen Danielle Itamah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ehinomen Danielle Itamah.

Hi Ehinomen Danielle, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I often say that Opulent Crowns Atelier was not built overnight. It was built through curiosity, resilience, and a deep love for creating beautiful things.
My journey into millinery began in Nigeria in 2016. What started as a creative interest quickly became a lifelong passion as I discovered the art of transforming simple materials into elegant, handcrafted headwear. At the time, many of the traditional millinery materials used internationally, such as felt and wool, were difficult to access where I lived. Instead of seeing that as a limitation, I learned to master the materials that were available, particularly sinamay. That experience taught me to be resourceful, creative, and intentional with every piece I made. Over the years, I continued investing in my education through specialized training, including courses with internationally recognized milliners through Hat Academy, constantly refining my techniques and expanding my skills.
When I moved to the United States, I found myself starting over in many ways. Building a new life in a different country came with its own challenges, but it also opened new opportunities. While establishing my career in corporate finance as an Accounts Payable Specialist, I never let go of my passion for design. Instead of choosing between a stable career and my creative calling, I decided to pursue both.
That decision led to the growth of Opulent Crowns Atelier. Today, I create bespoke fascinators, hats, headpieces, turbans, and statement accessories for women who want to feel confident, elegant, and unforgettable. My clients do not simply wear hats. They wear handcrafted conversation pieces that celebrate their personality, culture, and confidence. Whether they are attending a wedding, church service, Kentucky Derby event, tea party, gala, or another special occasion, my goal is to create something that makes them feel beautiful long before they receive their first compliment.
Today, I am proud to build Opulent Crowns Atelier here in the Baltimore area, serving clients locally and across the United States while continuing to grow a brand rooted in craftsmanship, culture, and timeless elegance. Every design is created with careful attention to detail because I believe a hat is more than an accessory. It is a form of self expression, a work of wearable art, and often the finishing touch that transforms how a woman feels the moment she puts it on.
Looking back, every challenge has shaped my journey, from learning millinery with limited resources in Nigeria to rebuilding my life and business in the United States. Those experiences have taught me that creativity flourishes through perseverance. My hope is that every piece I create reflects not only beauty and craftsmanship but also the resilience, faith, and purpose that brought Opulent Crowns Atelier to life.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has played a role in shaping both me and my business.
One of my earliest challenges was learning millinery in Nigeria, where many of the traditional materials used by milliners around the world were difficult to source. Instead of letting that stop me, I learned to work with what was available and became more creative because of it. Looking back, those limitations helped me develop my own approach to design and craftsmanship.
Moving to the United States brought a new set of challenges. Like many entrepreneurs, I found myself balancing a full time corporate career while building my business from the ground up. There were moments of uncertainty, learning a new market, building a network, and introducing my work to people who had never heard of my brand. Growing a creative business requires patience, consistency, and a willingness to keep showing up even when progress feels slow.
Another challenge has been educating people about the value of handcrafted millinery. In a world of fast fashion and mass production, many people do not immediately realize the time, skill, and artistry that go into creating a custom piece. I have learned that part of my job is not only designing beautiful headwear but also helping clients appreciate the craftsmanship, detail, and personal experience that come with owning something made especially for them.
Through it all, I have learned that challenges are not roadblocks. They are opportunities to grow, improve, and trust the process. Every obstacle has strengthened my resilience, refined my craft, and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. Today, I am grateful for every lesson because they have helped shape the designer, entrepreneur, and woman I am still becoming.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a milliner and the Founder and Creative Director of Opulent Crowns Atelier, where I design and handcraft bespoke fascinators, hats, headpieces, turbans, and statement accessories for women who appreciate timeless elegance and exceptional craftsmanship. Every piece is thoughtfully designed to complement the individual wearing it, whether she is attending a wedding, church service, Kentucky Derby event, tea party, gala, or another special occasion.
What I specialize in is creating pieces that are both beautiful and deeply personal. I believe the best designs are not simply worn. They become part of a woman’s story. That is why I take the time to understand my clients, their personal style, their personality, and the occasion they are dressing for before creating something uniquely theirs.
One aspect of my work that I particularly enjoy is incorporating elements of my African heritage into contemporary millinery. I love exploring the use of traditional textiles such as Aso Oke, Sego Gele, and other culturally inspired fabrics and embellishments to create pieces that celebrate heritage while embracing modern elegance. Blending traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design allows me to create headwear that feels distinctive, timeless, and meaningful.
One of the things I am most proud of is remaining committed to true craftsmanship in a world that increasingly values speed over artistry. Every design is handcrafted with careful attention to detail, quality, balance, and finish. My goal is not to create accessories that are worn once and forgotten, but heirloom quality pieces that leave a lasting impression and can be treasured for years.
What truly sets Opulent Crowns Atelier apart is the experience. My clients are not simply purchasing a hat. They are investing in a handcrafted piece that reflects their individuality, celebrates their confidence, and tells their story. For me, there is no greater reward than seeing someone put on one of my creations and immediately stand a little taller, smile a little brighter, and feel completely transformed.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories revolves around a sewing machine.
When I was growing up, my mother was gifted a beautiful sewing machine. It was a significant gift, but because my siblings and I were still young and curious, some of its parts eventually went missing before we really understood its value.
By the time I was in junior secondary school, which is the equivalent of middle school, I joined the Clothing and Textiles Club because I had always loved creating things with my hands. That was where I first learned everything from basic needlework to properly operating a sewing machine. I was fascinated, not just by the sewing itself, but by the idea that a simple piece of fabric could be transformed into something beautiful.
A few years later, my mother decided to revive her sewing business and bought another sewing machine. Whenever she went to work, I would quietly sit at the machine, threading it, practicing how to pedal it, and trying to understand how it all worked. I wasn’t making anything extraordinary at the time. I was simply captivated by the process of creating.
Years later, when I discovered millinery, I was excited because I thought I wouldn’t need a sewing machine. In the beginning, I relied heavily on glue, but I soon realized that truly refined craftsmanship required proper sewing techniques. It made me smile because I had come full circle. Those childhood moments spent learning to thread and pedal my mother’s sewing machine had quietly prepared me for the work I do today.
Looking back, I realize that my passion for craftsmanship didn’t begin with hats. It began with curiosity, creativity, and a little girl who couldn’t resist learning how things were made.
