Hi DJ Honey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
With nothing more than a secondhand mixing kit and an eclectic array of records, DJ Honey impressively burst onto the Philadelphia DJ scene back in 2010. Since then, they’ve become well-renowned for their creative ingenuity and original grooves. A slew of hot tracks and unconventional performances has elevated DJ Honey to a level few DJs ever reach. “It’s a challenge, but I wouldn’t change it for the world,” says DJ Honey.
She is passionate about the art, culture and feeling of all things music which is why she began deejaying at the age of 17. This rising star’s talent and personality caught the attention of fellow DJs and venues in the Philadelphia and Washington, DC regions and has provided her an opportunity to showcase her skills throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
Growing a loyal fan base one event at a time, DJ Honey keeps crowds moving by playing a variety of music but definitely surprises those who misjudge her youthfulness with classic 90’s mixes. Her diversity is also a strong suit and she enjoys playing genres that expand from the expected Hip-Hop all the way to Techno. Yes, she is young but her love for music has made her a student of the art and coupled with her dedication to please audiences there is no event Honey cannot handle.
Known for her versatility and creativity on the decks, DJ Honey has emerged as one of the most sought after DJs on the entire East Coast. Building her career around playing distinctly feel-good sound, the Philadelphia native has already shared stages with multiple A-list artists such as Keke Palmer, Xscape, and Coco Jones. Most recently she DJed and opened for Keke Palmer during her “Big Boss” tour. As well graced the stage with DJ DNyce.
You can find HONEY spinning weekly at some of DC’s hottest nightclubs and lounges. Her infectious energy combined with her passion for music create a party vibe unlike any experience. In addition to rocking clubs, she has DJed over 300 weddings and corporate events.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a female DJ in the entertainment industry, I face unique challenges. Gender bias and stereotypes often question my technical skills and musical knowledge, and sexist attitudes often undermine my abilities compared to my male counterparts. I am tired of hearing “You’re actually good to be a female DJ” BLAH! Female Djs are dope in their own kind of way!
I encounter many avenues of underrepresentation in lineups and festivals, sometimes being included merely as a token to fulfill diversity quotas rather than for my talent. The male-dominated networks in the industry sometimes hinder my access to key opportunities and mentorship, with gatekeeping by men in power being a significant barrier.
Harassment and safety concerns are more pronounced for us, as I often face sexual harassment and worry about personal safety when traveling alone or working late hours.
Pay disparity is another issue, as female djs frequently earn less for the same gigs. Media representation can focus more on my appearance rather than my skills, and I may be pigeonholed into certain genres, limiting my creative expression.
Lastly, balancing a demanding career with personal life responsibilities is also challenging, given societal expectations. Big ups to all the DJ ladies who are mothers! Keep going girl!
Despite these obstacles, I strive to break barriers, advocate for gender & LGBTQIA+ equality, and inspire future generations with my resilience and talent.

What makes you happy?
In a world of chaos, peace makes me happy because it brings a sense of calm and contentment to my life. When I am at peace, I feel balanced and in harmony with myself, music and the world around me. It allows me to fully appreciate the little things, like a quiet morning, a good TV show, or time spent with loved ones. Peace helps me manage stress and challenges with a clear mind and a positive outlook. It gives me the space to reflect, grow, and pursue my passions without the weight of anxiety or conflict.
In the entertainment industry, peace is essentially important. This industry can be incredibly stressful and demanding, with long hours, constant pressure, and high competition. Maintaining inner peace helps me navigate these challenges more effectively, allowing me to stay focused, creative, and resilient. It also fosters a healthier work environment, promoting collaboration and mutual respect among colleagues. Ultimately, peace fills my heart with joy and helps me live a more fulfilling and happy life, both personally and professionally.
