Daily Inspiration: Meet Blue Angel

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blue Angel.

Blue Angel

Hi Blue, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, hello! I’m Blue Angel, a fourth-generation House Head and Baltimore-born DJ with roots that run deep in the city’s music and nightlife culture. My parents met at the legendary Paradox Nightclub in the late ’90s and raised me on a rich blend of House, Hip-Hop, R&B, Club, Soulful, Afro, and EDM music. My mother—a third-generation House Head—would dance with me in our living room while sharing stories of iconic parties and legendary DJs. I held onto those stories, always imagining what it would feel like to be part of that world.

As a kid, I thought DJing was the coolest thing ever. Between the ages of 7 and 12, I was obsessed with DJ Hero. A core memory of mine is playing “Another One Bites the Dust” by Queen over and over again. It was addicting—and eventually, I craved more. Assuming I was too young to DJ in real life, I started searching for other DJ games online.

Noticing my passion, my mom tapped into her club connections. With the help of DJSWThree, I received my first set of equipment, got private lessons from DJ Lady Mysterious, and earned a coveted invite from Baltimore club legend DJ Boobie to observe the Sons of Soul House music radio show. I went on to study the craft under mentors like DJ Kasper Burnstein (now affectionately known as “Uncle Ike”) and found inspiration in icons like Karizma. I even scored my first interview as a Rising Star on Baltimore Flava Radio, hosted by Antwon Grant and Nina D from Xtreme House Nation.

By 16, I was ready to make my debut on HGR, a Baltimore-based internet radio station hosted by Nina D. My style immediately resonated, and I began building a loyal following I lovingly call the HALOS. Over time, I developed a genre-blurring sound called Social House—born from the desire to create more than just dancefloor energy. It’s a genre-blending approach that prioritizes ambiance, groove, and storytelling.

My name, Blue Angel, was inspired by the Blue Angel jet planes that would fly over Baltimore every year during the air shows—a powerful display of grace, boldness, and precision that stuck with me as a child. Blue is my favorite color, and Angel is my real name—so when it came time to step into my DJ identity, it felt like fate.

Whether I’m spinning at a rooftop party, city festival, or live-streaming on Twitch, my goal is always to curate soundtracks for real human moments—where conversation, movement, and energy flow together naturally. From debuting on Baltimore radio to sharing lineups with legends at Artscape, Collective Minds, and Deep Sugar, this journey has been about honoring my roots, evolving as an artist, and creating spaces that feel like home for everyone—especially those who’ve never quite fit the mold.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey as a DJ has been incredibly rewarding, but it hasn’t come without its challenges. Being a woman in a predominantly male industry, I often find myself as the only female on the lineup. This brings an added pressure to not only represent for women but also to prove that I can hold my own and deliver at the same level as my male counterparts. Additionally, with House Music being over 40 years old, I deeply feel the weight and responsibility of representing the next generation of Baltimore House. There’s a delicate balance between honoring the path laid by my predecessors and discovering how I can bridge the gap toward the future.

I’ve also encountered some frustrating moments, like the occasional mansplaining about equipment, which can be quite disheartening, especially when I’ve been hired for my expertise. On the technical side, I’ve had to deal with venues that don’t provide monitor speakers, making it harder to ensure the sound quality.

Beyond the technical and gender-related challenges, I’ve also had personal battles with mental health, including anxiety, depression, and ADHD. These challenges mean I have to work extra hard to maintain my motivation and energy, so I can show up as the empowered, positive force that my audience deserves.

Despite these obstacles, each challenge has only made me stronger and more determined to inspire others. It’s all part of the journey!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At my core, I consider myself an artist and storyteller who uses multiple mediums to connect with people—music just happens to be my loudest language. As Blue Angel, I’m a fourth-generation House Head from Baltimore and a DJ who specializes in social house—a fluid, genre-bending style rooted in feeling and community. But music is only one facet of my creative expression. I also engage deeply in styling, makeup artistry, digital design, photography, and content creation—each offering a different lens through which I share my story and the stories of those around me.

In 2022, I expanded into virtual performance by launching my Vtuber persona, MetaBlue. Through MetaBlue, I host Rate It Wednesday’s w/ MetaBlue, a weekly interactive show on Twitch where my audience—the MetaFam—helps curate and rate tracks live. It’s become a space for discovery, play, and collective energy, blending nightlife culture with digital futurism.

One of my proudest accomplishments so far is the Social House Signature Series event at Club 1722, curated for my 21st birthday. It wasn’t just a party—it was a cultural moment. I was graced by two Baltimore legends, Karizma and Kasper Burnstein, both of whom opened for me. That experience confirmed that I could not only contribute to the legacy of Baltimore’s music scene but also create platforms that merge generations, genres, and influences.

Beyond the booth, I’m also known as The Bmore Princess, the lifestyle content creator side of me that highlights Baltimore’s food, fashion, art, and culture. Where Blue Angel is the DJ and musical architect, The Bmore Princess is Angel—the woman behind the decks who loves to explore, uplift, and connect. The Bmore Princess brand grew from my work as a local foodie, which opened doors to collaborations and friendships with fellow Baltimore influencers like Simone Phillips of Charm City Table and Lynnell of Those Williams. Through this platform, I spotlight small businesses, fellow creatives, and local gems—using my voice to amplify the spirit of my city.

Another thing I’m deeply proud of is my volunteer service. It’s hard to be named Angel and not feel called to give back to my community. Over the years, I’ve supported causes and events that truly matter to me. When Hurricane Dorian devastated the Bahamas in 2019, I was asked to provide a 7-hour set for a local relief drive and drop-off—and without hesitation, I said yes. As MetaBlue, I’ve donated an hour set for Ameer Brooks’ House for the Holidays Twitch stream marathons in 2022 and 2023, raising money to provide toys for families in need during the holiday season. Outside of music, I’ve lent my time to community-centered spaces like the Maryland Film Festival and Les Twins Baltimore dance workshop in 2018 (which led to an opportunity for me to DJ at their Baltimore dance workshop in 2019). For me, service isn’t just something I do—it’s an extension of who I am.

Sometimes people recognize me as Blue Angel. Sometimes they know me as The Bmore Princess. But both identities reflect the same mission: to show the beauty, depth, and brilliance of Baltimore and its people. Whether I’m spinning in the club, livestreaming with MetaBlue, or spotlighting a hidden gem crab cake spot—every expression is part of a bigger world I’m building. One that honors where I come from, celebrates where I am, and invites others to dream about where we can all go together.
