Thank you Baltimore & beyond for your courage and resilience during this challenging time. Each day we receive emails about how our vibrant fashions and African print face masks are instilling cultural pride, joy and providing protection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The Regal Clothes mission is to reconnect culture through fashion with our clothing collection and cultural workshops. Our African Discovery workshops are an interactive selection celebrating the art of head wrapping, the cloth speaks- meaning of African fabrics, Waist Bead fashions, Adinkra Symbols, Know your African name and more.

There was an enthusiastic welcome of Regal Clothes because there we filled a missing void in the community. We showcased trendy African Fashions and integrated the cultural foundation by selecting vibrant fabrics with meanings that empower the wearer. Our workshops were very popular especially the headwrap workshops and The Cloth Speaks, we were concerned that COVID would force us to cease offering these gems. However, due to the sponsorship of Baltimore County Public Library and other local partners Regal was able to continue virtual cultural workshops that were usually sold out.

We realize that this period is unlike any that we have ever experienced with people experiencing a lot of loss and anxiety. This is why we continue to reach out to our customers and new clients who have become family to remind them of the resilience and strength of those that came before us. Protect yourself Fashionably

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I love this question because it touches the heart of who is Regal Clothes. We are the trendy fusion of African fashion and culture, we encourage everyone to Add a Pop of Culture to your Style. Regal creates, curates and communicates the nuances of the culture that you are wearing! Because of our commitment to sustainable fashion and reducing our local carbon footprint, Regal Clothes sews its fabric remnants into strips and creates these whimsical designs and accessories. Sassy and Sophisticated with a dash of Pepper! We are working towards a zero-waste goal.

It is equally important to look good and know the strength and stories that you are representing. For example, when you understand that wearing a fabulous ensemble made with the ‘Koforidua Flower’ ankara pattern (popular pattern with unique flowers and vines) it symbolizes beauty, knowledge, and humility, you will be inspired represent those characteristics.

What makes us unique is that we foster an atmosphere of unity and fashion by sharing cultures. The Regal ‘African Discovery Series Workshops (in person and virtual) promotes African designs with a dash of pepper. Regal Clothes is bridging fashion and traditions with a pop of culture.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
One word: Collaboration: The most important lesson Regal Clothes has learned along our journey is the power of identifying individuals/companies who are on a similar path in reconnecting the communities in the Diaspora and sharing ideas, events, projects. No one can have all the answers, but when you scrutinize the landscape you will realize that many pieces to your puzzle may be held by another person/project and in joining forces, you will all get to the finish line faster and stronger.

The ability to achieve your ‘Why/Purpose’ and make an impact in the lives of people by empowering our communities with the wisdom and courage of our ancestors is essential. Our “Why’ is to reconnect culture and self-awareness through fashion. However, in these times the focus is on staying alive and protecting our families. In reaching back to our culture, history we will find strength. People are hearing our message and understanding that our fashions are a form of ‘non violent protest’ and responding to our Why.
