Conversations with Trigga Halfkrazy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trigga Halfkrazy.

Hi Trigga, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
A Jamaican/American transplant from Brooklyn, NYC. I grew up to the soundtrack of Bob Marley, Dennis Brown, and many of the other great reggae acts that made the world also fall in love with the genre. That love turned into wanting to play the music and I took many years perfecting my skill set whether in the home or small events to give me on the ground experience. While in the process I moved to Baltimore to attend Morgan State University and that gave me an inroad to the local dancehall scene where I launched HalfKrazy Sound which to this day is one the most popular dj collectives. Featured on MTV, BET, and other media platforms Halfkrazy became a gateway to pushing Caribbean culture in the greater DMV area further. The once local Baltimore brand expanded not only past its local borders but now is in high demand across the U.S. and international waters. The last 5 years to current has seen Trigga leading his Halfkrazy brand into business with his weekly Caribbean event Rumpuch Sunday DMV, Active Wednesdays, and more. Multiple annual events. And even being a tour dj for one of Jamaica’s hottest artist Dexta Daps. Trigga is currently gearing up for a live performances in multiple markets including 2 South Africa bookings all while still being a leader in the DMV Caribbean space.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
To get here was never easy. Caribbean entertainment was mostly assigned to hole in the wall places where it didnt get the light it deserved. These places though preserving the authentic dancehall feel left us open to police scrutiny. Arrests, confiscations, and some times harassment was becoming the norm and was stifling the culture. But through this I still pushed forward and in the midst united different islands locally and helped end certain inter island division that held us back.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a master at blending genres whether Caribbean or any other for that matter. That skillset puts me in more rooms than the average Caribbean dj and sees me representing culture on a broader scale at festivals like Afram in Baltimore or the International Music Conference in Jamaica which I headlined this past February with the likes of Shaggy and many other stars of the Caribbean.
