Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Allen.
Hi Tracy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I attended Baltimore City Public Schools. I am a graduate of Dunbar High School, and I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from Morgan State University and my Master’s Degree from the University of Maryland’s School of Social Work. I am a licensed clinical social worker who began my career in government positions. I worked in Baltimore City and the District of Columbia. I spent the bulk of my career providing services for juvenile offenders. In 2018, I realized that government work was no longer a good fit for me. I was too radical to sit back and be a part of decision-making for my community by people who were not familiar with the struggles of people who look like me. I transitioned into my private practice in 2018, and Reclaiming Hope began. I’d registered my business the year before, but I had to wait until the opportune time to branch out on my own completely. For 4 years, I enjoyed watching my clients transform themselves into new people, and then I accepted a full-time teaching position at Morgan State University. I stopped seeing clients for therapy and have been teaching for five years, and I love it! Watching students grow into their professional selves over two to three years is rewarding. As of last year, my practice has evolved from traditional talk therapy into a unique mind-body-spirit approach to healing. My services now include mental health consultation, life coaching, Reiki, Thai Yoga Bodywork, stretch therapy, spiritual guidance, and custom body care products, all designed to help women reconnect with themselves and reclaim their joy.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m always looking for ways to improve my practice, and sometimes it’s challenging to connect with people who may have the answers you need. Many people gatekeep, making it difficult to get answers to questions. So, there’s the struggle of trying to get what you need when options are limited. Transitioning from talk therapy to a more holistic approach has not been easy either. People seem to shy away from what they do not understand, so I spend a lot of time explaining the benefits of holistic healing. People will invest in things that improve their physical appearance, but won’t invest the same energy into their emotional well-being, which can be challenging when you need clients to move forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I can’t thank my parents enough for their unwavering support throughout my academic and professional journey. Although they didn’t come from a background of full entrepreneurship, they have come to understand my passion for my work and have always stood behind me. My parents are still an active part of my career. They worked hard to ensure that my brother and I had more opportunities than they did, laying a strong foundation for me to be responsible and grounded, which has helped me immensely. My friends have also been my anchor. They have listened to me express my frustrations when I was unhappy at work, supported me through each transition, and cheered me on every step of the way.
