Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiffany Watson.
Hi Tiffany, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Have you ever felt like you were destined for greater? As a child, I would pretend to walk a dog around the house, use a spoon as a microphone to imitate radio host Angie Martinez, and reenact the best parts of The Oprah Winfrey show. I guess you could say, I was born to entertain.
My mother and father were strict West Indian parents who wanted my sister and me to become doctors and lawyers. But my true passion was broadcast journalism. I wanted to become a radio host. Every day, I listened to DJ Quicksilva, Angie Ang, Flex & Rain, Donnie Simpson, and Russ Parr, in awe of their humor and creativity.
For my undergrad, at Bowie State University, I switched my major from Sociology: Law to Communications. My first internship with the Kane Show at Hot 99.5 and I started doing funny segments. I graduated but had a hard time finding a job so I went back to school.
I received my master’s degree in New Media Journalism at Full Sail University. They threw us out in the field with equipment to find interesting stories to tell on camera. I went on to become Valedictorian and won the Advanced Achievement Award. Still graduated with no job again in 2014. In 2015, I finally got a job as a freelance newspaper reporter at the PG Sentinel newspaper, writing feature stories.
At the end of 2015, I finally got a full-time reporting job at Southern Maryland Newspapers, writing for The Maryland Independent. While doing that I had 2 radio shows and was also a movie critic/blogger for The BobbyPen, an award-winning blog.
In 2016, I started commenting on TMZ a lot and it was so much fun. I was able to comment on a couple of big stories too! In 2017, I started working at FOX45 as an Assignment Editor/Content Creator, writing articles, updating social media, working on breaking news, and so much more.
In 2019, I finally got the opportunity to be on-air! I pitched an entertainment news segment, called Spilling The Tea W/Lady T, to the producer of BMore Lifestyle on MyTV Baltimore and they loved it. I was on once a week. In September 2020, I was able to host BMore Lifestyle and launch its new programming schedule on FOX45 while our show’s host was on leave due to surgery.
In 2021, I was nominated for an Emmy Award as a host of BMore Lifestyle. Exciting! The “Spilling The Tea w/Lady T” segment airs LIVE on BMORE Lifestyle every Tuesday and Thursday on FOX45 at 11:30 AM.
Our “Lemme Tell You” segment, a title I coined the phrase for, airs LIVE Monday-Friday on BMore Lifestyle with four contributors, including myself. discussing trending topics. I am also a comedian in my spare time… sometimes I post funny videos on social media. I have opened for comedians such as KevOnStage and Tommy Taylor Jr. I truly do love making people laugh and smile.
I was also featured in a Popeyes commercial which has aired for like a year. I am an award-winning journalist, an Emmy-nominated TV host, an Assignment Editor/Content Creator, Comedian, and Social Media Maven.
I wear a lot of different hats at my job and I believe my passion and determination are going to take me far… and even beyond what I can imagine.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being in the media industry is not easy. I graduated twice and had problems finding a job both times. I filled out thousands of job applications and was rejected so many times.
It really gets to you after a while. I almost gave up on my dream of being on TV. But I NEVER STOPPED PRAYING AND I WAS DETERMINED!
Other things I had to learn were how to build my brand, pitch my ideas, and be confident in what I have to offer.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I want people to know that DREAMS DO COME TRUE! When people look at me I want them to think “Lady T did it, so I can do it too!” I started off just dreaming of being able to make thousands laugh and entertain millions of people. I want people to know that even though your dream seems impossible and people tell you that “you can’t” do something, YOU MUST PUSH FORWARD! Your goals are achievable. Your vision will be recognized. Also, your dreams will be realized.
Honestly, I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me in the next few years. I would love to tackle acting, standup comedy and being a national entertainment correspondent. Keep following my journey as I make my dreams a reality. @myfairladyt
