Conversations with Tanisha Taliaferro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanisha Taliaferro.

Hi Tanisha, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started selling purses and women’s accessories in approximately 2006 as a way to make some extra money. I hosted home parties and then began selling online and through social media. With many changes, ups and downs, the business steadily grew, and I expanded to selling women’s clothing. Fast-forwarding to the pandemic. For the past five years, I worked as a field investigator contracted for the Department of Defense. Due to covid work slowed down and my contract ended. This made me take a leap of faith and bet on myself to finally open a storefront, which I have wanted for years! October 1, 2020, I received the keys to my location at 327 Park Ave Baltimore MD 21201.

Since opening my business have exceeded my expectations, to say the least. I have since started a lip wear line (LevelZ) and a puppy wear line (Keo’s Kollection) which is named after my puppy. I am continuously looking for ways to stay creative and inventive to keep my business thriving and growing. Don’t be surprised if you see a second location open up in the near future.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t always a smooth road and many struggles along the way had me second-guessing myself prior to opening my storefront. When you are investing your own savings, you want to make sure you are making a solid decision that will be profitable.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Style Haven boutique has a motto, “Not The Ordinary” we try to provide different, eclectic pieces that you won’t find at your local mall. I love finding different pieces that I can display at an affordable price. That combination keeps my customers happy and coming back. When I’m looking for items, it has to say “boutique.”

What do you like and dislike about the city?
What I like best about our city is that we have some passionate, talented people here. We also have some great areas located throughout the city. If I had to choose what I like the least, it would be the crime rate we are experiencing, especially with our younger generation.
