Conversations with Robert Mckenzie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Robert Mckenzie.

Hi Robert, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I began my journey at the age of 17, assuming the role of CEO and securing six-figure funding for a nonprofit youth advocacy program, all while drawing from my Afrocentric educational background in Philadelphia. Since that pivotal age, I have maintained a clear vision of my aspirations and the necessary steps to achieve them. I have been fortunate to have Dr. Umar Johnson as an uncle anns influential figure in my life, actively supporting my educational endeavors. Having faced the personal challenges of losing my father to gun violence and having an older brother serving a life sentence for a related offense, I am driven by a profound ambition to challenge and change the stigma surrounding these issues, a commitment I carry with me every day.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a young black male from Philadelphia and still a young black man in American will always have it gifts and curses.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I serve as the Outreach Coordinator for PA CareerLink, where I hold the distinction of being the youngest individual in this role. I am recognized for my ability to effectively connect with and significantly impact the youth, achieving impressive outreach numbers.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
People can collaborate with me by forming partnerships focused on youth development, co-hosting workshops and events, volunteering for initiatives within the nonprofit sector, providing funding or sponsorship for youth advocacy programs, and engaging in networking opportunities to share ideas and resources. Together, we can create a meaningful impact and drive positive change for young individuals in our community.
