Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashad Singletary.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
At an early age, Pastor Rashad Singletary accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior on Palm Sunday of 1993 under the leadership of the Rev. Dr. John R. Scott at the Gethsemane Baptist Church. He knew that there was a call upon his life to serve in ministry. Pastor Singletary was licensed as an evangelist at the age of 12 at the Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA under the leadership of the Bishop Clarence V. Russell. As an evangelist, Pastor Singletary was responsible for feeding the homeless, visiting senior nursing homes, and children’s hospitals. In 2013, under the leadership of Bishop Oscar E. Brown, Pastor Singletary was licensed to the gospel ministry at the First Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church. In that same year, he was appointed to serve as the Executive Director of Ministries overseeing 300 plus ministry volunteers and 35 core ministries. After serving in various capacities in ministry, Pastor Singletary was ordained at the Ark church of Baltimore in 2018 under the leadership of Bishop J.L. Carter. In that same year he was appointed as the Executive Pastor of the Solid Rock Church of Baltimore. As the Lord would ordain it so, on Sunday November 29th, 2020, Pastor Singletary was elected the 4th Senior Pastor of the Mount Olive Baptist Church of Turner Station.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No it has not been a smooth road. I have experienced some personal challenges and traumas along the way. One of my greatest struggles that I had to overcome has been mental health Through my journey there have been defining moments that were produced by struggles but it has all been worth it when I look back and see where I am now.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in Community Violence Intervention and Faith Engagement. In Faith Engagement, with the guidance of God, I am proud that I have been able to grow a church from 14 people to 250 people and being able to revive a church in a historic African American communities in Maryland that has now become a beacon of light. Our church has been able to address several social determinates by providing programs, supports and services directly to the congregants and community residents.
On the Community Violence Intervention, I am most proud that I have been able to successfully shift the cultural norms of violence in the city and that I played a part in Baltimore City reaching it’s lowest homicide rate in 50 years.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I have had to confront my own imposter syndrome thinking that I am not qualified enough to accomplish what I have accomplished.
