Today we’d like to introduce you to Niya Whitlock.
Hi Niya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started my journey in the lash industry as a freshman in college. I remember feeling so overwhelmed with how to start, that at times I felt too discouraged to. Initially, I worried about how I was going to perform a service that’s intended to feel “spa-like” in a college dorm. But little did I know, my college campus was the best market for me to start my clientele.
I had all of my equipment set up in my dorm room, and because most of my clients were other college students, it worked out perfectly! Fast forward to now, I am currently a recent graduate of North Carolina A&T State University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and I have a thriving lash business located in Towson, Maryland.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Getting to this point was far from easy, but the hardships I have faced have shown me the realities of being an entrepreneur. One of the biggest struggles I’ve experienced was being impatient with myself and my business. Growing a service-based business from nothing takes time, and although I knew that, I still struggled with appreciating the growth I did make while still working towards my next step. I had to learn to love my business, flaws and all, throughout every step of the way.
My advice to anyone that’s just starting a business is to fill your mind with positive affirmations, and speak into existence what you want for your business. Entrepreneurship is a beautiful journey, don’t rush your process! Every struggle will be worth it, as long as you never give up.
What do you do, what do you specialize in, what are you known for, etc. What are you most proud of? What sets you apart from others?
I am a professional eyelash technician offering quality lash extensions and lash training. I specialize in complimenting my clients’ natural beauty with my work! My favorite styles to do are hybrid and volume sets, which are also the styles I am most known for.
But besides having beautiful work, I pride myself on providing exceptional service to my clients. Adding true value to those I service is what sets me apart from others. I want each and every client to feel like the experience they are receiving at NWLashes can’t be found anywhere else.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is longevity and security! I truly want my business to have a long-lasting impression on the community I service, and the communities I will service in the future. Creating an experience that is priceless and unforgettable is my ultimate goal every time, and that is a huge part of how I’ve been able to grow my business.
But most important, is security. Establishing financial freedom for myself and for my family is always top priority. As my business and wisdom continue to grow, I make sure that I’m setting myself up for the long run. Having a successful business is great, but it’s even better when you’re using it to fund other investments that will pay off later in life.
