Conversations with Lewis School Em

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lewis School Em.

Hi Lewis, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began making music as a college student at the University of Maryland when my roommate took me to his house where his brother was in a rap group called The Good Ole Boys. I started recording that day and was hooked immediately. After college, it was hard finding a stable job and I continued to make music while working. I eventually decided to pack up my life and move to Los Angeles. A world of opportunity opened up for me when I got here and I have no opened up for major rappers and written songs for a few as well.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road at all. Chasing a dream like a rap career is very difficult and there were so many months where I did not know where rent money was going to come from. But, I continued to believe in myself, kept working, and everything ended up working out fine. In order to fund my career I started an online reselling business called The School Bus which has granted me the freedom to work on music whenever.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a rapper and songwriter by the name Lewis School Em. I am known for witty and creative punchlines. I can be humorous, but also have the ability to craft really deep songs that make you feel emotion. I am most proud of my song “Egg Nog Freestyle” which is produced by Statik Selektah, a producer that I always dreamed of working with. I think what sets me apart from others nowadays, is that I am still very focused on lyrics when it comes to rap music. I have not changed to fit into the newer style.

How do you think about happiness?
What makes me happy is chasing my dream, and running my reselling business. The feeling of being able to work for myself and creating the freedom that I now have to do the things I love is everything to me. Never having to go back to punching a clock and working for someone else is a dream come true for me.
