Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal McCaffity

Hi Krystal, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was raised by my dad which he got custody of me at the age of 2. As a little girl i’ve always been into fashion, growing up wanting to be a fashion designer, and having the dream to live in NYC one day. For my birthday and holidays I would always ask my dad to get me materials that I could use to create clothes and even accessories because I was big on getting dress and always having jewelry to go with it. Later as I got older I then found out, wait I don’t want to be the one to make the clothes, I want to wear the clothes. I feel like modeling is just within me because it just came so natural. I started taking pictures and the poses would just come to me, I became very photogenic at a young age so even now as an adult standing in front of a camera to take a picture is so calm for me. I remember going to school as a child and even now going to work as an adult always receiving the comment “you’re sooo skinny”. But that comment has really shaped me with the tough skin that I have now and my size has changed a lot with becoming a mom and just aging I guess I have naturally put on some pounds but i’m still very petite, the body I have no I really love. which I don’t feel that will change, this is just me. Although I also have always had natural tone to my body, I played sports all through grade school. And walking in heels all the time now even increases my body tone. At the age of 18 I started taking advantage of my interest to become a model. I did research and thanks to the fancy technology that we have I found a local photographer on facebook. He was interested in me as soon as I hit him up, he even questioned me where have you been all these years? I then began working with him in the studio, I felt so alive and destined to be there every time I went to do a project. The photographer I was working with at that time then became my mentor which he taught me so much about the field of modeling and how it’s really a career, a job within itself. From then on I started getting connected to other inspiring models and fashion designers. I went to different casting calls in the Baltimore and NYC area and from there I started doing runway shows, and more studio work. I met this great photographer in NYC that taught me so much about my beauty and what I really could offer to modeling. I took a lot of gaps in between my journey of becoming a published model because of becoming a mom of 1. And my dream of becoming a Nurse which then I became a college student after graduating high school. Despite that it was really just times I didn’t believe in myself, I faced so much jealously and no one ever gave me any advice or support, so I kept a lot to myself when it came to the topic of modeling. I would not talk much about it around family/friends or even random people I met along the way. No one even knew when I decided to start back up because I choose to stay silent about it. And here I am making the cut to walk in NYC fashion week which has always been on my to do list. I am a very passionate and humble model, their will always be someone better than you but you just have to be confident enough within yourself to know that you are worth it too. I love doing what I do and no one can take this away from me because I am not just a model, I have many talents as an individual to offer and I have worked so hard for every one and as of today I am still working on myself everyday. I believe it’s always room for improvement within yourself as a person because we’re human and bound to make mistakes. I think modeling is apart of my destiny and being able to participate in this work of art, I am appreciative and I cherish every opportunity because not everyone is cut for this. It’s a pleasure to be able to meet so many different people such as models, designers, photographers, even traveling to different cities/states. It’s like wow we watch this stuff on tv but being around it in person feels like a dream, you be like “ woah I am really here” My favorite thing to do as a model is simply to play dress up, I love fashion and it just seems to come so natural to me. I can dress anyone any day for any event or occasion. Even when I walk down that runway my feeling is so alive and nothing even matters in that moment but me. I am glad that I didn’t give up this dream. And I am also blessed to be in the field of Nursing helping patients everyday, also writing journal entries that I feel helps me to grow as a person.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This has not been a smooth road at all. I’ve faced many challenges in my life but i’ve learned to never give up on your dreams even if it takes you losing people that you thought were the closest to you. And understanding that you may have to take a couple of loses before you come across that win. If you keep putting the work in eventually you will get there. Nobody can stop you but you. Most importantly we can’t walk this earth without God, that’s how I get through each day by faith. When I wake up in the morning I thank God for another day and I talk to him throughout the day asking him for guidance on anything I do not understand and also spending time with him.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I consider myself as a professional free lance model. I specialize in studio photography and runway. Modeling is a hobby for me and if I had the chance to make it big I would take it but I am satisfied with being a local model and participating in opportunities that interest me. But what really sets me apart from others is a have a secret talent of journaling, this has always been a stress reliever for me. Anything that’s on my mind or that i’m feeling for the day I will just write about it. Everyday I make it apart of my routine to write a journal entry. I am really proud to say that I have the courage to want to be different from everyone else.

What’s next?
My plans for the future is to keep being me. Offering leadership to individuals who are interested in the same hobbies or career fields as me. I do plan to continue getting paid opportunities for modeling. I’m glad that I love modeling enough to say that this is a hobby for me so whether I make it big or not I can always see myself still working as a local model and being satisfied with that because I have so many other things to look forward to everyday. And it’s so many different ways I can make a difference in someone’s life with what I bring to the table as a professional.
