Hi Key, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
From an early age, I’ve been a jack-of-all-trades, diving into every sport, instrument, and craft I could get my hands on. Yet, the one passion that quietly lingered in the back of my mind all these years was barbering. I remember being a kid, mesmerized by the technique of haircuts—watching barber videos at every meal and begging my dad to let me take just one swipe when he would cut my brother’s hair. At the time, I didn’t fully understand the technique, I was just captivated by the artistry.
It wasn’t until my gap year after high school that it all clicked. I realized that in my quest to try everything, I overlooked the one thing that had always fascinated me—cutting hair. That epiphany led me straight to scheduling a tour at the Paul Mitchell School for barbering that same week, and I’ve never looked back since.
It was during my time at Paul Mitchell that I connected with two shop owners who would become my biggest mentors. They took me under their wing, allowing me to shadow them for a year as I completed my hours to graduate. To this day, they continue to teach me, and I know I’ll be learning from them for years to come.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The real hurdle wasn’t just grabbing a pair of clippers—it was mastering the craft with precision and finesse. I didn’t want to be just another barber; I was determined to be exceptional. I spent countless hours watching seasoned barbers work, studying every technique and detail. Head after head, cut after cut, I watched, absorbing every move like a sponge. I took meticulous notes, both mental and physical, driven by a relentless desire to perfect my craft. This passion for greatness became the foundation of my journey, turning what started as a skill into a lifelong pursuit of excellence.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a barber, I excel in working with all hair textures and styles, offering each client a distinctly tailored look. My approach is rooted in thorough consultations, where I carefully interpret and bring each client’s vision to life. I take immense pride in transforming someone’s everyday look into their ideal style, ensuring every haircut not only meets but exceeds expectations.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5 to 10 years, I anticipate the industry evolving through new eras of styles and trends. Fortunately, I’m confident that AI will never fully replace the essence of what we do. Even if a groundbreaking haircutting machine were invented in the next decade, the unique relationship between client and barber is irreplaceable. The personal touch, trust, and connection we build are integral to the experience and value we provide. I’m excited to see more creative minds entering the field and contributing to the ever-evolving art of barbering.
