Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Bell.
Hi Kelly, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We originally formed as a backup band for Bo Diddley, the Kelly Bell Band is now in its 26th year of playing, recording, and entertaining fans. The debut album, “Phat Blues Music” remains one of the best-selling CDs in Mid-Atlantic region history. In addition to the role as frontman in the music industry today, the KBB’s success has also been promoted by some of my other crazy antics. I am the host/voice of “In the evening with Kelly Bell on 89.7 WTMD Baltimore. You can hear it anywhere on WTMD.org Monday thru Thursday from 7 pm to 10 pm. I am a recurring guest on several area radio shows, perform as a professional wrestler with Maryland Championship Wrestling, has written, recorded, and acted in commercials, and has several television and movie appearances to my/our credit.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No road is completely smooth, nor should it be! You got to pay your dues man… That’s how you stay in the game for a while. It develops a different appreciation for the cats out here really doing it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I think Blues Review Mag said it best (largest Blues publication in the world):
Voted the Best Blues Band in the Mid-Atlantic Region 12 years in a row, the Kelly Bell Band from Baltimore, Maryland is “among the most genre-expanding acts on today’s blues scene. Who else can combine elements of hip-hop, funk, and blues-electrified here, Delta there, horn-driven elsewhere- and still manage to sound sincere? A forward view of the way blues is transitioning in today’s scene…Bell’s an honest poet and an outstanding singer with lots to say.” Blues Revue Magazine.
Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
The Flintstones! There was no better TV rerun for me.

Pigtown Main Street would love to talk to you about the great things happening in our special place in SW Baltimore. Pigtown’s historic roots, generations of families and funkiness doesn’t happen anywhere else in Baltimore. We have our own community anthem “Pigtown will Shine Tonight”, no other community in Balitmore can say that! No other community can claim a defining history to the B&O Railroad musuem.
To get a feel of our fun and funky, please see the following videos and check us our on social media.
