Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Tyler
Hi Katie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a passion for photography, but it wasn’t until I had kids that I truly embraced it. As a mom, I found myself constantly capturing moments of their lives, wanting to freeze those memories. While I would hire talented local photographers to take family photos (and still do because I sometimes want to be in the photos with them!), I soon realized I wanted to learn how to do it myself. I wanted to be the one to document my children growing up.
I began photographing not just my family, but friends as well. That’s when I discovered how much I truly loved it. What started as a hobby quickly grew into something much more meaningful. I found myself inspired by the opportunity to capture the stories of others, and soon, my client base expanded beyond family and friends. What began as a personal passion has turned into a professional endeavor—one that allows me to share my love for photography with others.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced on this journey is battling imposter syndrome. There are moments when I question my skills and find myself comparing my work to others more than I should. But I’ve come to realize that doubt is also a valuable part of the process—it pushes me to learn, grow, and strive for better. I’m fortunate to have an incredible support system that continually lifts me up.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I like to say that I’m here to capture both the fleeting and the timeless moments of your life. It’s the unscripted, in-between moments that inspire me the most. While the classic family portrait is always a must, I believe there’s something truly special about the authentic moments that happen when the formal smiles fade. I work hard to create a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere during my sessions, so those genuine, candid moments can unfold naturally.
I know that not everyone loves being in front of the camera, so one of my main goals is to make the process as comfortable and painless as possible. I want my clients to walk away feeling like they just spent time with a close friend behind the lens—not a stranger with a camera. It’s all about creating a fun and easy experience, so the memories we capture feel as real and personal as the moments themselves.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Starting my business was a big leap of faith. Putting myself and my work out there for strangers to see felt incredibly vulnerable, but looking back, it was one of the best risks I’ve ever taken. The challenge pushed me to grow, build confidence, and ultimately embrace the journey. And what a rewarding journey it’s been!
