Conversations with Kasai 4K

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kasai 4K.

Hi Kasai, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first began writing lyrics in 2011 as a hobby, just something in my free time. It was within that same year that I was first introduced to FL Studio and Cubase by my dad. He was a DJ and would create mixes and DJ at parties every now and then. It wasn’t until 2012 when I got my first microphone and interface that I learned how to use FL Studio to record my music. Starting off it was rocky; my mixes were very muddy, or they weren’t as good as professional mixes. I first started recording with the intention to gain royalties from my music to help out my mom. That has since then shifted over to me recording for my own pleasure though I do still use the money to help out both of my parents. Over the next 10 years, I kept working at it, getting better with every mix as I went on and eventually moving to more of the industry standards like Logic Pro and Pro Tools.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I had a lot of trouble learning how to mix and master. I would spend hours watching tutorials on how to mix, watching the vocal chains of other engineers, and still had trouble mixing my own music. I have since gotten much better with some of my songs receiving praise from a few studio engineers. Over time the lyrics I wrote and my beat selection got better too.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Not only am I an artist, but I’m an engineer as well. I’m mostly known for my music but beginning to be recognized for my work as an engineer. In my area, I would have friends sometimes come to my house to record their songs and since the time of me getting my car, I’ve also been a mobile engineer, bringing my gear with me and having people record in my car or at their house. There were very few in my area doing what I did especially with engineering music in high school compared to how it is now with the rise of Bandlab. I’m mostly proud of my engineering. I enjoy working with audio and being able to experiment in different ways with the various plugins and effects I own.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
It is a very long and trying road. A lot of trials and tribulations. Not everyone will understand what you are doing and there will be some who don’t want to see you win. Learning to block out the noise and doing what works for you is a big key in music. For artists, my advice would be to direct your traffic to singles. This could be one song per month, one every 4 months, and so on. The bottom line is to direct a lot of traffic to one song to keep fans eager for the next drop. Don’t be too focused on albums and EPs. I personally wish that I had followed this when I was starting out.
