Today we’d like to introduce you to Johanna Carbajal.
Hi Johanna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually started my journey back in 2018 in my home country, Peru. At the time, I was living there and exploring different ways to enter the healthcare field — I was even considering nursing school. I’ve always been drawn to helping people feel better about themselves, both physically and emotionally, and that’s what first sparked my interest in cosmetic surgery consulting.
Over time, I began learning more about patient care, recovery, and the emotional side of undergoing aesthetic procedures. When I eventually moved to the U.S., I realized there was a real need for guidance and personalized support for clients traveling for surgery — someone who could bridge the gap between medical care, emotional support, and luxury service. That’s how Travel Surgery Experts was born.
Today, I’m proud to help clients from all over navigate their surgery journeys with confidence, comfort, and compassion. It’s been such a rewarding experience to see how this work empowers people to not only look their best but truly feel their best.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Becoming a plastic surgery consultant in the U.S. came with its own set of challenges. I had to learn how to meet North American standards and expectations — everything from how consultations are structured, to recovery protocols, to what clients value most in their overall experience.
It took a lot of research, adaptability, and dedication to understand both the medical and emotional sides of the process here. My biggest goal has always been to make sure each client feels supported from start to finish — from that first consultation to their full recovery.
There were moments when I doubted myself or felt overwhelmed, especially being an immigrant building a business in a new country. But my passion for helping people and my belief in what I do kept me going. Every challenge became a lesson that shaped Travel Surgery Experts into what it is today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Through my company, Travel Surgery Experts, I specialize in cosmetic surgery consulting and post-operative care coordination. We help clients plan and navigate their entire surgical journey — from choosing the right surgeon and preparing for their procedure, to ensuring they have the best recovery experience possible.
What sets us apart is the level of personalized care and emotional support we provide. We don’t just focus on logistics — we focus on people. Many clients are traveling from different states or countries, so they often need guidance, reassurance, and a sense of comfort throughout the process. That’s where we come in.
I work closely with each client to create a tailored experience that includes pre-surgery preparation, post-care recovery, and even luxury concierge services. I’m most proud of the trust we’ve built with our clients and the positive transformations we get to witness — not just physically, but emotionally.
For me, this work isn’t just about beauty; it’s about helping people feel confident, cared for, and truly supported during one of the most vulnerable moments in their lives.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I’m a big believer in staying organized and grounded — it’s what allows me to give my best to my clients and my business. I pray regularly and do a weekly brain dump to get all my ideas and thoughts on paper. It helps me clear my mind and stay focused on what truly matters.
I organize most of my schedule right on my phone. I use Calendly to manage consultations and appointments, and I work closely with my virtual assistant, who helps me track each patient’s recovery progress and follow-ups.
In terms of apps, I really love the Apple Fitness app, which helps me stay active and balanced. I recommend this app to all my clients in their recovery months especially the first 90 days after surgery.
I also use nutrition tracking apps that help monitor key nutrients — this is especially important for patients preparing for or recovering from cosmetic surgery, since good nutrition plays such a big role in healing and overall results.
I also enjoy listening to motivational podcasts like The School of Greatness by Lewis Howes. They keep me inspired to continue growing as a businesswoman and as a person.
