Hi Jasmine & Chonita, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Divine Weddings and Events is a mother-daughter partnership founded by Chonita and Jasmine Roberts. What started as a natural gift for planning and organizing quickly turned into a true passion for creating meaningful celebrations for others.

For Chonita, the journey began when a close friend asked her to help plan her wedding. Seeing everything come together and witnessing the joy it brought sparked a passion for wedding and event coordination. Her attention to detail and ability to transform a vision into a beautiful experience became the foundation of what we do today.

Jasmine’s love for events started at a young age by assisting with family and church weddings alongside her mother. As she got older, that passion continued to grow through planning events during college at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore and later coordinating concerts and seminars professionally while working at Radio One, Inc.

In March 2022, we officially launched Divine Weddings and Events. Since then, we’ve had the opportunity to coordinate weddings for over 10 brides and support corporate and social events for small businesses and organizations. Combining our experience, creativity, and love for people has allowed us to build a business rooted in professionalism, family, and genuine connection.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most business owners, our journey has had both rewarding moments and challenges. The wedding and event industry is very competitive, so there have definitely been slower seasons mixed with extremely busy ones.

During slower periods, we’ve stayed intentional by collaborating with other coordinators as day-of assistants or virtual assistants. Those experiences have helped us build strong relationships within the industry while continuing to learn and grow.

We also use slower seasons to focus on content creation, networking, and finding new ways to connect with potential clients. One thing we’ve learned is that consistency, patience, and relationships are key in this business. Every experience has helped shape us into a stronger team.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At Divine Weddings and Events, we specialize in wedding coordination, event management, and creating stress-free experiences for our clients. We’re passionate about bringing our clients’ visions to life while making sure every detail is handled with care and professionalism.

We’re known for being organized, dependable, personable, and calm under pressure. Our goal is always to make our clients feel supported and confident throughout the planning process, especially on one of the most important days of their lives.

What sets us apart is our mother-daughter dynamic. We bring two different perspectives, strengths, and creative ideas to every event while still working seamlessly as a team. Clients often tell us they appreciate how personal and genuine our approach feels. We don’t just want clients to feel like another booking — we want them to feel like family.

What we’re most proud of is the trust our clients place in us. Being able to play a role in such meaningful moments and seeing everything come together successfully is the most rewarding part of what we do.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
While it’s not necessarily a childhood memory, one of our biggest core memories while building our business was planning and coordinating a 200+ guest wedding that beautifully blended Nigerian and Ethiopian cultures in Richmond, Virginia.

We connected with the client through a Facebook group and instantly built a genuine relationship. Most of the planning was done virtually, but we also met in person several times to ensure every detail — from the floor plans to the overall flow and design — aligned perfectly with the couple’s vision.

Seeing everything come together was incredibly rewarding. The couple and their guests were impressed by our professionalism, care, and attention to detail, and the entire experience reminded us why we love what we do.

That wedding was a defining moment for us because it confirmed that this business is more than just a hobby — it’s truly our passion and calling. Being able to build something meaningful together as a mother-daughter team makes it even more special.
