Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Haire.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Fell in love with photography almost twenty years ago by accident. Got my 1st camera and shot over 5000 pictures with it. Along with my love for animals I put the two together.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
During COVID I almost gave up on the two things I love. I lost my spot at the Maryland Zoo during COVID and almost lost my mind a lot of anxiety and depression during that time I had to over come. I didn’t pick up camera I think for six or seven months
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I volunteer at the National Aquarium and I have my reptile business name Exotic Exchange. I breed leopard geckos, turtles, and tortoises. I shoot freelance for my church The Mix and The Motorhouse. I am proud that this past year me and my buddy got mentor some kids that wanted to try photography. That was best experience I was happy to be learning something they liked.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Raven she is my number supporter. She always look and help me sometimes if have a problem. She gave me plenty of opportunities. Also AJ, Jeff, and Ms. Pam all help me along the way.
