Today we’d like to introduce you to Coffin Nachtmahr.
Hi Coffin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
If I could summarize the story it’s essentially what my documentary is. However, in further detail, I have a background in engineering and art and toys became the product of that. As an artist, I most effectively communicate through what I make and do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not between managing my day to day life and trying to make it as a full-time artist its been quite the bumpy road, the pandemic wasn’t even the hard part for me between becoming a dad and a husband kinda all at once there was a lot for me to manage in a time when everyone else was also struggling.
Before that Id say my work kept me busy enough not to complain but consistent enough to keep going and I’ve been learning a lot about manufacturing and such over the years that’s been fun (in a very challenging way).
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I paint mostly and make skill toys like yoyo and kendama, I’m probably best known for yoyo and being good at anything I try. I’m most proud of inspiring people to actually be themselves, I hate wearing a mask or being something/someone I’m not, so in response, I don’t.
I don’t know what really sets me apart from anyone else nothing I do is impossible and if asked I’m willing to teach anyone, at best I’d say what sets me apart is ill actually take the steps or leaps necessary to succeed in what I love despite the obstacles presented
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Human to human interaction.
There’s no self-help book for knowing yourself that really applies to you if everyone’s journey is different.
I’d argue that making human connections when and where I can have been the most powerful tool in everything I do, new people can teach you so much or become invaluable resources to your work or life.
