Conversations with Ashley Marin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Marin.

Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Ashley Marin, I am a 2001 baby so I am currently 24 years old. I was born and raised in El Salvador and moved to the United States when I was 16. I learned english and finished high school in California where I also became a Professional Makeup Artist, and I am currently located in the state of Maryland working around the DMV.

I love everything beauty, networking, teaching and, I have also started to venture into content creation for social media. My passion for makeup started when I was very little; I loved watching my mom do her makeup and I was always very curious about it.

As I grew older, I also incorporated more steps into my beauty routine and tried new products until I made the decision to learn professionally. It has been one of the best experiences of my life since it has opened many doors for me, I have met incredible people and more than just learning how to do makeup, it has also taught me how to interact and communicate better, how to carry out a business, among many other things.

My mission is to continue learning, keep thriving and discovering new passions, growing personally and, at the same time be an inspiration for others to follow their dreams, work hard for them and, to not give up on yourself.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been as smooth as you might think. There has definitely been a lot of struggles along the way. Especially, after I moved from my natal country to the US. I faced a new reality where I had to share and live in a very smaller space from what I was used to, the language barrier, being apart from my mom, making new friends was hard too.

However that pushed me to learn English faster, work for my own things, appreciate more the privileges I have in life whether they seem big or small.
We have to be grateful for what we have and not focus so much on what we lack but keep going and trusting we’ll make it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Thank you, I currently work as a freelancer in the beauty industry as a Makeup Artist, I take my own clients from socials, friends, references, etc. But, I also work with companies as a contractor.

I am most proud of my perseverance, even tho we constantly face obstacles in life; I process my feelings, my environment and, I get up and keep moving forward. Trusting in God and knowing there is a solution to everything.

What sets me apart from others is my kindness and the fact of already being my own authentic self. The effort and love I put into the things I do.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Yes absolutely, there has been a lot of people who have helped me and have played big roles in my life.

I wish I can mention every single one of them but, I’ll start with my mom her name is Venus like the goddess of love. She has been the biggest supporter and inspiration for me to be a kind and loving person no matter how hard things can be; and to achieve anything positive thing that I want with patience and effort along the way.

I have also had teachers whom helped me throughout my life some of them from ES and others from the US especially when I needed the most help to communicate and learn a new language a lot of them where extra supportive. Special shoutout to Ms. Ellis my English teacher in the ELD program I was part of when I attended Christopher High School in Gilroy, CA.

My aunt Marcela owner of 312 studio who is one of the best hairstylists out there, has always been there for me, inspiring and motivating me to keep going when I most needed it. She was actually the one who push me to become a Makeup Artist and always checks up on me.

I also want to thank Beauty Innovations lead by Martha Tafoya who taught me how to professionally do makeup and elevate my skills in many ways.

Last but not least, I want to thank my partner for the love and support he gives me through thick and thin. As well as other family members who are always there for me, friends, people who have given me job opportunities, clients, social media supporters and platforms like this one that make people feel seen, recognized and appreciate every effort.
