Community Highlights: Meet Yoko Murakami of Healing Balance Acupuncture

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yoko Murakami.

Hi Yoko, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from Japan and have worked as a Registered Nurse for most of my life. After completing my service with the Japanese Peace Corps in Paraguay, I took a sabbatical year in Chile. While in Chile, I met Mildred, who had suffered a stroke in her twenties and was undergoing physical therapy, but felt frustrated with her limited progress. Because of this, she decided to try acupuncture, and I accompanied her to every session. Over time, we noticed dramatic improvements in her strength and mobility. Witnessing this transformation was eye-opening and planted the idea in my mind of one day, maybe I would study acupuncture. Fast forward to five years ago, my acupuncturist, who also had a background in Nursing, shared with me that she had attended acupuncture school at the age of 53. At that moment, I realized that it was not too late for me to return to school and pursue this path.

Acupuncture has opened horizons, providing me with many new tools for healing and caring for patients, which has always been my life pursuit.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of my main challenges is that I have never owned a business before, which makes growing a small business particularly difficult. At times, the process feels uncertain and overwhelming.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Healing Balance Acupuncture is a home-based practice built on a unique blend of Eastern medicine and Western clinical experience. With 30 years as an Emergency medicine nurse, I bring a deep understanding of the body, trauma, and pain into every treatment. I specialize in treating pain, allergies, insomnia, infertility, depression, PTSD, and overall stress-related conditions, and I am also known for cosmetic acupuncture as a natural, holistic approach to facial rejuvenation. As a trilingual Japanese practitioner and lifelong learner, I am deeply disciplined, curious, and committed to delivering thoughtful, individualized care. What I am most proud of is a brand rooted in trust, precision, and balance—offering patients compassionate, evidence-informed treatments that support both physical healing and emotional well-being.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
I wish I had known the right people to help me put together my advertising strategy and my social media campaign. It is still a work in progress
