Today we’d like to introduce you to Wesley Oliver.
Hi Wesley, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I grew on the South Side of Chicago (during some of the worst times) thinking football was my way out. I was good, so good I got a scholarship to the top High School in the nation De La Salle High School. Upon going, I realized I only played football because I thought it was my only way out the hood to a better life. Going to a private school in a exclusive neighborhood with teenagers that had parents that showed there were others ways to enjoy life changed my perspective on life tremendously. I quickly changed my life perspective and started thinking differently. One day on my way home from High School, I was jumped really bad, when my high school found out they made one call that led to the reconstrution of the red line and increase in safety and security, something that never happened. From that moment on I knew I wanted to be involved with politics and telling stories, I just didn’t know how. I was just amazed at what changed looked like when your connected to the right people. Fast forward to my adult years I realize that production was my gift, my instrument, the way I was going to finally get involved into telling stories. Since then, I have worked on some of the biggest political campaigns, several movies and documentaries, and over two dozen main stream gospel Artist. I’m a father of 6, and married to the most amzing wife a husband can ask for. I’ve had the pleasure of traveling the world using my gift of telling stories through the eye of the lense. I have several accommodations and citations and awards. But my greatest accomplishment was being able to reach back and help other teenagers like myself to realize their on God Given gift and purpose in life.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
After quitting football I lost my scholarship in highschool which forced me to adapt and overcome
Lack of resources in the career field that I knew I was called to be successful in
Being sued for over a million dollars for standing up for what was right
Working myself out of depression during a time when I felt it was better for me to give up on life
Almost lossing my house and car
