Community Highlights: Meet Tina Beliveau of The Beliveau Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Beliveau.

Hi Tina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Thank you for inviting me to contribute! I got into the real estate industry in my first year in college. A family friend was a successful realtor and needed an executive assistant. I fell in love with the business and got my real estate license a year later (in 2005), and the rest is history!

I started selling homes full-time in 2007 after graduating from Towson University. Little did I know I’d be building my business through a housing price collapse and recession. It was an incredible opportunity for me to build skills that have served me well ever since then – working in challenging business conditions required me to have a high level of expertise in every aspect of my real estate dealings because it would be impossible to thrive otherwise.

My favorite thing about real estate is relationship building. Every client I’ve served has contributed to the foundation of my business today. As I helped more and more people and built more and more loyal relationships, it became necessary for me to hire team members to continue to provide the level of service and attention I became known for within my client base. I founded The Beliveau Group in 2013. Since I got my real estate license, I’ve been a part of over 1,500 real estate transactions. I’ve learned so much about entrepreneurship, leadership, business management, marketing, training, and helping other people succeed.

I took a brief detour from direct real estate sales in 2016 and spent 3 years as a manager in a large local real estate franchise. I directly contributed to that franchise achieving the status of the #1 selling real estate office in Maryland in 2017. In that role, I learned much more about helping other real estate agents succeed – I recruited, coached, trained, and consulted over 1,000 realtors through the three years I spent in that capacity. Ultimately, I missed the freedom and flexibility of owning my own business and refocused on The Beliveau Group at the end of 2019.

My mission since then has been running a very streamlined business that is laser-focused on providing impeccable service, communication, and guidance to our clients with a small staff of exceptionally well-trained and experienced professionals. I became a mom in July 2021, and I am grateful for the flexibility that business ownership has afforded me. Everyone at The Beliveau Group is a mother. We bring a unique understanding and perspective to our clientele when it comes to everything that goes on in family life while navigating moving homes.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road! There are many ups and downs in the journey of entrepreneurship, business ownership, and real estate transactions. I often refer to the “real estate rollercoaster” that is unavoidable when you are selling homes – you can start the morning with a huge win (sell a fantastic house!) and then 5 minutes later be putting out all kinds of fires (the lockbox is broken at the listing and a buyer can’t get inside, so you’re running out the door, and at the same time a home inspection report just came to your email with a huge unexpected problem in a house, and three people are all calling you with pressing problems at the same time).

Learning how to manage lots of issues and inbound communication is a big part of the learning curve in real estate. Once you get proficient at organizing your transactions, your business tends to grow if you’re doing an excellent job for your clients and treating them well. The next common problem from there is not having enough time to work with all the people who want to work with you – so many real estate agents decide to build a team, bring on a partner, or bring on some sort of assistant – and that’s when you start to learn even more about communication, expectations, job descriptions, and more! The leadership learning curve can be very troublesome for realtors, especially if they have no background in hiring, training, and business management.

Growing and scaling your business can bring new struggles and changes. I have experienced all of these struggles and then some. Every day comes with a new set of lessons. One thing that has helped me is to always look for the lesson and how to bulletproof my systems for the next time. I am systems-driven – having checklists, templated emails, and processes for as much as reasonably possible saves a lot of headaches and helps to set expectations with clients, so they feel comfortable and confident that we are on top of everything. It is also very important to me to invest in the training and well-being of the people I employ, whether helping them build skills through a class or supporting them in taking vacations and time off to recharge.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us more about your business?
In a word, we are known for quality. What makes The Beliveau Group special is our commitment to the client experience being unforgettable. The client experience defines everything we do: who I hire to work on the team, how we communicate, the processes that we use, and down to the little things like sending gifts for birthdays and chocolate truffles when a client goes under contract on the house. We want our clients to feel important, to trust that they can rely on us fully, and that their real estate matters are in the most experienced hands.

Our brand is well known and admired inside and outside our industry.  We have a powerful online presence, particularly on social media and our website. Our branding is highly consistent and high-end. Our clients and other agents know that we are powerful communicators, very organized, and have incredible systems for everything. Other realtors regularly ask me for my templates, insights into my systems, and how I have found and trained the people who work with me.

We predominantly sell homes throughout Baltimore County and Baltimore City. We serve all price ranges and home styles with joy! We love old houses, fixer-uppers, historic homes, and everything in between. Our team members have a huge range of personal experiences with all kinds of real estate transactions as well as investing – we’ve flipped our own homes, own rental properties, help investors set up short term rentals (like Airbnbs), and have a property management arm through one of our agents. We also provide special services for luxury home buyers and sellers through our TBG Luxury Collection.

We have a huge repeat and referral client base because our clients know that they can trust us to give them the best guidance and be there for them when they need us.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was enterprising from the get-go! Growing up, my family called me “Tina Tornado” because I had so much energy. My first business was selling my family’s snacks to my neighbors at the top of my driveway. I have always been highly creative and interested in media and technology. I taught myself to program websites and produce and edit videos through middle and high school. My initial college plan was to study film and television production, but I fell into real estate my first year and never looked back!
