Community Highlights: Meet Taylor Sanders of Snake Magic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Sanders.

Hi Taylor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I think I always wanted to be an entrepreneur. When I started college at Temple University, I was determined to develop my skills in business at Fox School of Business while still studying art. While in college, I worked at Sephora and Ulta as a makeup artist and beauty advisor and I worked for NYX Cosmetics as a brand ambassador.

I loved working in the beauty industry but one of the most common problems I found was customers finding affordable good quality skincare! I also personally struggled with this in college. I began developing my beauty knowledge and gaining an understanding of holy grail ingredients in Sephora and learning how to fit clients’ needs with products.

I officially launched my business during my junior year of college during the pandemic despite fears and anxiety. I later relaunched my business when entering the Temple University Be Your Own Boss pitch competition afterward developing a uniquely formulated exfoliating skincare line. I wanted my customers to feel like they were in a new skin. I decided that I wanted my brand to embody skin positivity, and healthy ingredients, and make skincare fun.

We’ve cultivated a community where we spread skincare advice, tips, and motivation while also providing customers with skincare that makes them feel good. As we’ve grown as a brand we understand the importance of community since March 2022 Snake Magic LLC has powered college pop-up tours called “Taste of Culture” that showcase black-owned and women-owned businesses in the DMV and Philly.

We will start accepting vendor applications in July for the upcoming Fall semester. Currently Snake Magic is preparing to launch our newest collection “Hella Hydration” focusing on products that give your skin-quenching hydration! My dream is to have my products sold at Sephora one day.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, I don’t think entrepreneurship is a smooth road honestly.

In business, I’ve struggled with overthinking and perfectionism, this thing can really hold you back because entrepreneurship is really a journey and you develop as you go and I think that has humbled me in a lot of ways to not be so hard on myself and bounce back from any challenges my business has faced.

When I first launched my business, I thought I need to have everything single thing ready at the time I was struggling with balancing college and the start of the pandemic, it was a very stressful time. I think people have to normalize burnout and taking breaks I don’t personally support toxic positivity and think you have to grow through your emotions.

On my business journey, the hardest lesson for me was to stop burning myself out. In college, I was very used to this behavior like you work until it’s finished despite rest or things and I realized that was not healthy for my business and would ultimately lead to burnout and exhaustion.

We’ve been impressed with Snake Magic, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Snake Magic LLC was created by Taylor Sanders in 2020. Snake Magic is a skincare company that focuses on making great quality affordable skincare. What sets our brand apart is that we celebrate our imperfections, unlike most skincare brands Snake Magic believes in skin positivity and cultivating a sense of community.

We started off as an exfoliation-based skincare line and that is still our bread and butter, we believe exfoliating is key to getting rid of dead skin cells. I think right now I’m most proud of how my brand is developing and we will be attending our first festival of the summer 6/18 in celebration of Juneteenth at Sunflower Philly.
