Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Wells.
Hi Tanya, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began as a makeup artist for the amateur and professional bodybuilding industry 2005. From 2005 to 2012 I build a team who did all the makeup, tanning and body prep work for 32 bodybuilding competitions, several sports magazines and some television shows. With those connections and footprint; it allowed me to become a “Title Sponsor” for several events, ultimately landing me an invite to become a sanctioned natural bodybuilding promoter. I launched several bodybuilding competitions, partnered with natural bodybuilder Ro Mobley and together we launched the IRON GIRLZ ATHLETICS Brand.
We opened our gym in 2021 that was a combination of both MedSpa services and personal training. We then launched Iron GirlZ Weekend, an en expo highlight women in sports and women&mens natural body transformations. I was invited for an interview later that year and subsequently offered my own streaming sports show on WBGR media. Ultimately I close the gym launched a larger based in Bowie MedSpa centered around the same body work I did for amateur athletes now offering to ordinary men and women to not only the opportunity to re-scope their bodies, lose weight but to also offer pain management and health and wellness services.
Today, 20 years in sports entertainment and Aesthetics services I not only own BodywoRX Aesthetics Non-Invasive Medspa,promote and highlight women and men in sports during iron girl’s weekend but I’d like to also hope I offer every person whether they’re on stage or simply going to work the opportunity to be better today than they were yesterday through new age technology, products & services my services allows the everyday woman & man to be a champion, love what they see in the mirror and finally take center stage.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can honestly say it actually has been a smooth Road yes of course they were obstacles here and there but mostly mental always wanting to be the best always wanting to move to the next service or platform to offer people more in the industry I didn’t even find it challenging even 9 months pregnant literally sitting at a bodybuilding competition doing makeup the only areas if I have to look back and wish I would have had more support would be on finance I have solely financed every Endeavor myself and would have loved to be able to have a better backing but I think God that I was always in a position to be able to do the things that I dreamed of doing by simply using my day job to finance my dreams.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My Medspa is absolutely my biggest passion! Who would have ever thought Aesthetics services, technology and products would have come so far and you could do so much with the human body without ever having to go under the knife. I think that always interested me. I think, I always was fascinated with how people transformed their bodies to get ready for bodybuilding competition and I appreciate to this day and love the hard work they put into it, however, knowing that much of that can be done without ever having to walk into a gym now makes all the difference in the world. One does not replace the other, it’s simply a compliment to the other, and that, changed everything for me. I wanted to be a part of what made people feel their very best and bring those services, technologies and my years of experience to the masses allowing everyone the experience of being their physical and mental best.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Years ago I did an interview with a business magazine and they had asked what was the key to being successful. Funny enough back then I didn’t think that I was successful I just felt like I was following the things that I love to do! But one of the key things that I would do then, finding it a little harder now years later with family but still my mantra always was simply always be present. I made a point to be at events, get to know people, network even if it was an event that had nothing to do with what I was doing there was always opportunities to meet people. People that could open doors and possibilities into other areas I had not thought of and I would say to anybody as advice…go to events, get out and simply network and meet people, you may be surprised where it leads you.
