Today we’d like to introduce you to Ta’mi Clark.
Hi Ta’mi, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Hi. My name is Ta’mi — but in the photo booth world, I go by “T,” and I’m the founder of Proptography Co, a Maryland-based photo booth business.
Before Proptography Co ever existed, I was working as a call center representative for a high-volume agency, spending my days talking to very irate people who were already mad before I picked up the phone. Somewhere between “I understand your frustration” and my tenth deep breath of the day, I realized I wanted to work directly with happier people.
I didn’t have a fully formed business plan yet, but I knew I wanted to start a business of my own — and eventually landed on the idea of a photo booth business. The logic was simple: people at parties, taking pictures, tend to be a lot happier than people calling customer service lines.
Before committing, I decided to learn the industry from the inside – starting out as an employee. I took a job as a photo booth attendant for a local company to understand how photo booth services actually worked at real events.
That’s when I got my very first assignment.
It was an outdoor wedding. The reception was under a tent — the photo booth was not. The nearest power outlet was over 200 feet away, the extension cord was only 100 feet, and then the rain started pouring. Guests stepped in to help move equipment out of the rain while I tried to keep everything — and myself — together. At some point, the backdrop fell and hit my ankle, and I didn’t even realize I was bleeding because everything was happening at once.
It was embarrassing. It was chaotic. It was a full-blown DI-SAS-TER.
And somehow, in the middle of all that, everything clicked.
Standing there in the chaos, I realized two things at the same time: first, I never wanted to experience that again — and second, I knew I could do this better. With more preparation. More care. More intention. If that was the worst-case scenario, then things could only go up from there.
Not long after, Proptography Photo Booth was officially established in October 2016. What started as a way to work around happier people quickly grew into a professional photo booth company serving weddings, private events, and corporate gatherings.
As the business matured, so did the brand. That growth eventually led to a rebrand to Proptography Co, a name that better reflects the direction of the company today. The rebrand wasn’t about changing who I am — it was about aligning the brand with the level of professionalism, reliability, and experience I’d already been building behind the scenes.
What began as an escape from angry phone calls has turned into a business built around connection, creativity, and memorable photo booth experiences — and I’m excited to continue growing Proptography Co, one event at a time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Smooth? Not even…
Like most small business journeys, building Proptography Co has been full of learning curves, pivots, and moments where I’ve had to pause and say, “Okay… now what?” While the business has grown, I’m still very hands-on. I handle booking, set-up, breakdown, customer communication, troubleshooting, and the behind-the-scenes work — all while balancing life outside of events. There’s no manual for running a photo booth business largely on your own, especially while trying to grow it the right way.
One of the biggest ongoing challenges has been learning how to price my services confidently and value my time and expertise. It’s taken experience — and a few lessons the hard way — to understand that delivering a quality photo booth experience requires preparation, investment, and clear boundaries. I’ve also learned that not every inquiry is meant to be a yes, and that protecting the business sometimes means saying no.
Growth has brought its own set of challenges. As Proptography Co continues to evolve, expectations increase — from clients, venues, and honestly, from myself. I’ve had to level up my systems, processes, and mindset in real time to match where I want the business to go. That includes being intentional about how I communicate, how I show up, and how I position Proptography Co as more than “just a photo booth.”
Then there’s the behind-the-scenes work people don’t always see — the long hours, equipment issues, constant problem-solving, and decisions that have to be made on the spot. There are definitely times when staying comfortable and keeping things small would be easier.
But each challenge continues to sharpen my vision. The work forces me to be more intentional, more prepared, and more confident in my decisions. Looking back — and even looking at where I am now — none of it has been wasted. It’s all shaping Proptography Co into a stronger, more focused business that’s aligned with who I am and where I’m headed.
As you know, we’re big fans of Proptography Co. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At its core, Proptography Co is about creating experiences that feel thoughtful, polished, and genuinely enjoyable — not just setting up equipment and hoping for the best.
Yes, we provide photo booth experiences, but what we’re really known for is how we show up. I pay close attention to the details people don’t always think about but definitely notice: how comfortable guests feel, how smoothly things run, and whether the experience actually fits the event it’s part of.
We support a variety of events through modern photo and video booth experiences, from weddings and private celebrations to corporate events and community gatherings.
What sets Proptography Co apart is that I approach every event with care and preparation, no matter the size. I’m hands-on, I’m organized, and I believe professionalism and fun don’t have to be mutually exclusive. Guests feel guided without being rushed, and hosts feel supported instead of stressed. That balance is something I’m really proud of.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the evolution. Rebranding to Proptography Co was about aligning the name and presentation with the level of work I was already doing behind the scenes. It reflects growth, intention, and a commitment to consistency — not just in how things look, but in how the experience feels from start to finish.
What I want readers to know is that Proptography Co isn’t a one-size-fits-all setup. Every event is approached thoughtfully, with an emphasis on quality, guest experience, and reliability. Whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or something in between, the goal is always the same: create moments people actually enjoy and remember — and make it easy for the host along the way.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
If I could share anything with readers, it would be this: you don’t have to have everything figured out to get started.
Proptography Co didn’t begin as a perfectly mapped-out business plan. It started because I needed extra income, tried something new, and paid attention to what felt right. Over time, confidence came from doing — from showing up, learning on the job, and trusting myself enough to grow through experience.
I also want people to know that growth doesn’t always look flashy. Sometimes growth looks like rebranding when you’re ready. Sometimes it looks like tightening your systems and processes. And sometimes it looks like learning to say no to things that no longer fit so you can say yes to what truly does.
And if you’re thinking about starting something of your own — especially as a woman or a Black woman — know that your journey doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be valid. Start where you are, stay open to learning, and give yourself permission to evolve as you go.
