Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherri Collins-Witzke.
Sherri, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am a third generation funeral director. My family started our funeral home business in 1912 in southwest Baltimore and my stepfather, Harry H. Witzke, Jr., built our current location in 1965 in Ellicott City. I have worked in the business with my family full time since 1993 and my daughter, Samantha Logan, is a fourth generation funeral director who will carry on serving our community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The funeral business has changed greatly over the years. We are serving more cremation and green burial families than ever before and new ways of disposition are now legal in Maryland such as Alkaline Hydrolysis and Natural Organic Reduction. Covid changed many aspects of funeral service allowing us to now conduct business digitally through apps such as DocuSign and others. We have to be very diligent regarding modes of death that are still viable after death, like Covid, so morticians and embalmers stay safe and healthy.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our family has been caring for the community since 1912. We help families choosing cremations, burials including green burials, veterans services and pre-planning funerals, We are known to provide compassion and guidance when families are going through their toughest times. Our greatest compliment is families recommending other families to entrust us with their loved one when a death occurs. We are known in the area to provide quality services in a caring manner. Our family and staff are dedicated to helping others when the need arises. We are not affiliated with any other Witzke Funeral Home in Howard County or Catonsville. We are family owned and operated by myself and my daughter, Samantha Logan. We are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to help any one in need.
