Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Owens.
Hi Sara, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I am a mom of two young boys, and I LOVE to travel solo with them. When I mention this to others, I am usually met with, “Ugh! I want to do that, but it’s too much planning!!” or “Oh, I would love to travel, but I’m scared to do it alone!” I started thinking about how fun it would be to travel with a group of moms–we could share costs, and dinner responsibilities, and even support each other with a little childcare so everyone gets some downtime.
From there, The Traveling Mommune was born. I love to plan trips that most travel advisors won’t touch–road trips, train travel, and even staycations. Many of the trips I plan for other families feature a mix of outdoor and educational adventures, but I also plan all-inclusive luxury family travel and cruises. As a society, moms are typically juggling most of the mental load of running the household, so I love this opportunity to handle that mental load so you can just show up and enjoy your vacation.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Well, my kids have been frustrated by how much time I’ve spent in front of the computer (my two-year-old is currently standing next to me saying, “Mom, working longggggggg time…”), but the success of the launch surprised even me!
I imagined I’d be begging local friends to let me plan their vacations for quite some time, so I was shocked when my first real client was someone who had heard about me in a Facebook group in another state! I still feel like we’re in our infancy, though, so I’m sure there are plenty of hiccups to look forward to.

I love supporting all families as they learn to travel with their kids, but I hold a special place in my heart for moms who want to travel solo with their kids. It’s such a unique adventure but has also led to so many of my fondest memories with my children, and I’m honored to be a small part of that in someone else’s life.
