Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald Smith.
Hi Reginald, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Of course! First and foremost, you should know that I genuinely have a passion and desire to make the lives of others more fulfilling. Despite the wide range of experiences that I have had both personally and professionally, caring for other people has always been a genuine love of mine. My strong desire to see people well and to see them succeed in happy, fulfilling relationships is what inspired me to become a relationship coach and ultimately launch RU Coached.
Since I was a young child, I’ve been inquisitive with a curious nature and had an interest in the happiness of others. My mom, who is a wonderful person and parent, was a big influence on the development of my compassion and insight, however, she and my father decided to go their separate ways when I was ten years old. While I could not understand that situation at the time, and subsequently went through two divorces myself much later in my adult life, I learned countless relationship lessons about hurt and healing.
Those lessons seem to resonate well with others who have had similar experiences. Throughout my life’s journey, people I have met have told me that they find it easy to talk with me about their relationships. Because I have a natural ability to listen actively and intently, to show caring and support, and to share insight about how to navigate relationships, I seriously considered becoming a relationship coach. I wanted to help people build, create, and establish more emotionally intelligent relationships.
Often told by many, that you have a “gift” for helping others to navigate relationship challenges, I pursued a certification in relationship coaching. Equipped with many years of relevant and relatable life experiences, I launched RU Coached to become a premier coaching platform for those who need coaching support in the relationships that matter most. My commitment comes from wanting to help others avoid the pain of choices that can alter their life.
My clients are people who know they struggle with building professional, romantic, and non-romantic relationships. I use my skills to hear their challenges and introduce perspectives through questions to compel thought and revelation. Relationship coaching is transformative. It helps you to set and realize your goals, so you can go be GREAT in life, in love, and relationships.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s called a journey for good reason because the road will not ever be smooth. It is the bumps that make us better and more prepared for experiences we have yet to face. I’ve made poor choices that ranged from investing time and resources with those who took advantage of my eagerness, to hiring persons who promised to provide the tools needed to advance my coaching business and expand my coaching footprint in the relationship space.
Although uncomfortable, those lessons were needed. From each experience, I learned to ask different questions, questions about what is shared and questions about what isn’t. I’ve learned to be curious and allow what I learn to inform my next question or action.
Taking time to sit with information, thinking critically as you process the decision or choice, coupled with weighing your thoughts with your goals, builds confidence when executing decisions. When I launched RU Coached, I was guided by ambition and belief in relationship work, now I’m guided by the impact that relationship work I do is having on the world.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
In addition to being a Relationship Expert & Coach, I’m also an Author, Speaker, and Podcast Host.
Coaching: RU Coached is a coaching practice that offers executive coaching, romantic, and non-romantic relationship coaching services. Individuals, family members, couples, and professionals learn to apply emotional intelligence (EQ) in whatever relationship they choose to participate in. My clients are people interested in creating and participating in healthier relationships with those who matter most to them.
Author: During the pandemic, I hosted a weekly show on FB and YouTube called SIP n Chill with Coach Reg, which led to my first book titled, “Love, Relationships, and Sometimes, Just Letting Go,” which is currently available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and my publisher AuthorHouse.
Speaker: As a speaker, I thrive on guiding audiences toward the art of building enriching relationships in different areas of their lives.
In the workplace, I delve into strategies that foster a positive and collaborative environment, emphasizing effective communication and team dynamics.
When it comes to dating, my talks revolve around navigating the complexities of modern relationships, offering practical tips for fostering connection and understanding. I also bring a unique perspective to discussions about marriages, delving into the intricacies of sustaining love and partnership through effective communication and mutual support.
Additionally, I explore the dynamics of non-romantic relationships, providing insights into the complexities of parent-child relationships and the bonds between siblings. My goal is to empower individuals with the tools to create meaningful connections and cultivate fulfilling relationships across the spectrum of human interaction.
Podcast Host: Last year, I launched a new podcast, titled, “Fractured Not Broken: The Relationship Wellness Podcast” or FNB for short. The goal of the FNB podcast is to transform how we show up and participate in relationships that matter most to us. In November 2023, we released the 1st episode of “Fractured Not Broken: The Relationship Wellness Podcast” and we are performing very well to date.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
As someone who thrives on routine, there’s a certain comfort in the familiar cadence of my daily life. The predictability of each day provides a sense of stability, a reliable rhythm that keeps me grounded. However, I also have a great appreciation for variety in my life—a need for the unique, the new, and the different.
When I realized my affinity for both predictability and variety in my own life some years ago, it also became very clear to me that despite people having all kinds of relationship challenges there are always commonalities that all relationships have – both good and bad.
What many people may not realize about me is that I live what I coach. Whenever I have a conflict with someone or something, I apply the same DCIDE coaching model that I use with clients to work through it.
We are all creatures of habit, and while that can be advantageous in some areas of our lives, it can also prevent us from having great relationships. Often, we need to be open to a new and fresh approach to relationship issues and conflicts. That’s how I successfully navigate all challenges, relationships, and personal growth.
As a relationship expert, I strongly encourage others to embrace various ways to handle conflict as there is beauty in adaptability. It’s not about abandoning the comfort of routine in our beliefs and behaviors but rather allowing space to thrive in both personal and professional relationships.”
