Today we’d like to introduce you to Parrish Zaahir.
Parrish, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in Blackwood/Sicklerville in South Jersey right outside of Philadelphia. A small area but everyone played sports so there was no getting away from it. For me, it was always basketball and track. I didn’t touch a football field until I got to high school. Once that started every year it was back-to-back football, basketball, track, and AAU basketball. I left New Jersey in my junior year of high school. Which landed me in the Woodlawn area. I wasn’t really too fond of being in Baltimore at the time. Nor was I really trying to build a social life. Playing sports I was familiar with lifting weights and working out. So my stepdad would just take me to the gym. So that I would get out of the house a little more. It was then that I realized if I wasn’t going to play sports there was another way to still be around it. This was when I discovered that you could be a personal trainer or Strength and Conditioning Coach for teams. I attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore where I studied kinesiology.
Left school in 2016 and hit the ground running and got certified as a personal trainer. Still worked with athletes at the same time. My cousin Josh owner of JOBRSA JUICE told me I needed to start working on building a brand.
Being from up north I listened to a lot of the lox growing up. In jersey people would ask me what my name was I would say “P”. Some of the older guys would respond back like “Styles P”. If you’re familiar with him you know he refers to himself as “Sp The Ghost”. So I just flipped it with a play on words and came up with “Sp The Coach”. Since then within the last few years, I’ve now been the Strength and Conditioning Coach for Milford mill academy’s boy’s basketball. I’ve worked with many people outside of that from group classes of 50 plus. Also Athletes outside of basketball like lacrosse, soccer, football, and baseball.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road for me to choose this field of work. There are times when I’ve been down to my last taking Ubers to get to work and not getting paid. It was times when I had multiple clients one month. Then next month boom now I’m down to one or two clients.
Now you sitting there questioning yourself as a trainer and the quality of service you offer, Mentally you have to be strong and that’s just in life in general. Especially when sometimes you have to be realistic and understand that your passion doesn’t always pay.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a personal trainer/strength & conditioning coach/Movement Coach. I wouldn’t say I have a specialty in pretty well-rounded you can come to me for weight loss, lean muscle gain, sports performance, injury & rehab. What sets me apart from others is my approach to the body. I train from a neuromuscular approach which deals with the body’s awareness and ability to move through space.
What I’m most proud of about my brand are its growth and genuineness. I really care about my clients you spend enough time with people they become more than just a client to you. I do it for the people which is why at the begging of this year I had my first community event Wellness Day. Where I had a few health vendors/businesses come out and set up tables to promote themselves. From massage therapists, spiritual mediums, bakers, and juicers.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t think luck played any role in my life or business. I believe that everyone’s story is already written. You make choices that either take you down a more challenging way than they had to be. That and your mental perspective on how you view the world paints your reality in front of view.
