Community Highlights: Meet Nisha Sheth of Mumbai Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nisha Sheth.

Hi Nisha , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started this journey about 10 years ago. I was influenced by my mom because she became a very successful business owner at the age of 31.. following her path. Let me also follow her footsteps.. so I started training under her and understanding the fashion industry that she had studied herself. It took me about 3 to 5 years to understand everything all the embellishes all the materials in the fashion world.. once I was 100% confident I saw like creating my own styles something unique fusion and I started wearing it where people started asking me where I’m getting it from when I told him it was my own creation they started giving me orders.
As I became more confident than I took the lead and the faith to open up a boutique in Clarksville, I have been established for almost 8 years and it’s been an amazing journey meeting so many different people from different ethnicities that I’ve supported my brand and loved everything about my work. I’ll continue growing. I’ll continue creating and I will continue being in India and Maryland.. inspiring people by that they just trends and fashion.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was 34 when I opened the doors to Mumbai Boutique. And Covid had hit right after within 9 months, I had no idea what was going to happen if I was gonna survive or I’ll have to shut down I didn’t qualify for any loans. I didn’t qualify for any of the government help except SBA.
But I survived it was three years of pull back. A lot of patience was required along with the Unknown.. It was the most scariest part in my journey..
The struggle becomes when people are opening businesses in their home and not paying any fees and doing a rent free.
But there was no optical I would say because my landlord was very supportive of my journey and being the youngest in the community of owning a business and Howard County at the time.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am in the Fashion business I own a retail boutique store. We are a high-end boutique store. We specialize in only special collections and one of a kind.. I do not repeat outfits. I tried to bring the latest trend from Bolywood to Hollywood.
We cater to every ethnicity our doors are open to everyone, and everyone is always found something they fell in love with.
I have Jory bangles and a lot of unique pieces, custom designed by me and my team. We are based out of Mumbai, but we operate in Maryland.

What’s next?
I feel that small businesses don’t get enough help.
My future plans are definitely to expand eventually. Right now we’re facing a recession with things going on so it’s kinda hard to plan anything right now. All I can do is open. I can definitely open another location at some point.
