Today we’d like to introduce you to Millicent Clarkson and Annie Sutton.
Hi Millicent and Annie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We started as coworkers at another organization and saw a need for therapeutic services for children outside of the school setting. Bmore Mindful Counseling was founded to fill the gap in services such as social skills groups, individual and family therapy sessions. We started a practice in Towson, Maryland in several years and developed a strong community in the area and eventually found that we wanted to expand our practice to serve the larger Maryland community. Since we were founded we’ve also expanded to accept some insurance plans such as Carefirst and Cigna to make our services more accessible to the community. We found teletherapy allowed us to serve clients from various regions with our skill set. We have a strong foundation in special education services which offers us a unique lens to supporting neurodiverse children and adults.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building Bmore Mindful Counseling hasn’t always been a perfectly smooth road, but what has made the journey so meaningful is our partnership. We support and encourage one another not just as business partners, but as friends, female entrepreneurs, and mothers. That collaboration has allowed us to grow, take risks, and accomplish far more together than either of us could have on our own. We began in 2017 with a physical office space in Towson. Originally we were working Saturdays and evenings along with our other full-time jobs. We encouraged each other to take the leap to work at the practice full-time and believe in ourselves. In 2019, we both shifted to working at the practice full-time. We were seeing many clients in our physical space but that changed when COVID hit. We quickly adapted to meet with our clients virtually and found this format worked really well for our business and allowed us to work with clients who we previously would not have been able to because of where they were located. We have since closed our office space and shifted to a fully remote practice.
We’ve been impressed with Bmore Mindful Counseling, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bmore Mindful Counseling has a strong foundation in mindfulness and we support clients in noticing what is happening in the moment without judgement. We help them feel calmer, more connected, and at ease. Our approach is flexible, compassionate, and to help others feel more grounded. Our practice as a whole specializes in working with neurodiverse clients, clients with anxiety, and LGBTQ+ clients. Specifically each co-founder has their own expertise and population they work with.
Annie K. Sutton, LCSW-C works with ages 14+ and specializes in working with women that were diagnosed with ADHD and Autism in adulthood.
