Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Banks.
Hi Mary, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started La Muse Press as a graduate student at the University of Baltimore when I independently published my short story collection, Street Magic: Stories and Tales. When I first started my business in 2011, I started it as a sole proprietor.
Fast forward to 2018, I decided to turn my business into a limited liability company. Currently, La Muse Press is focused on empowering purpose-driven women to unleash their inner Muse through reading, writing, journaling, and publishing.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road was not smooth nor was it easy. I underestimated what it took to start a business from scratch. I bootstrapped my business for several years using W-2 income and personal credit to fund my business.
It was not until recently that my company began to receive grants including the Baltimore BASE Network Grant and the 2023 BGE Energizing Small Business Grant, which have been heaven-sent and a major blessing.
As you know, we’re big fans of La Muse Press, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
La Muse Press, LLC is a literary and publishing firm that empowers women to unleash their inner Muse through reading, writing, journaling, and publishing. We specialize in assisting our clients with writing and publishing high-quality books that activate impact, influence, and income.
La Muse Press takes great pride in transforming aspiring authors into empowered published authors. In addition to our services, we are releasing a journal line to empower women to manifest their dreams.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
People might not know that before I started La Muse Press, LLC, my first love has always been writing and that I consider myself to be a writer first. I am an avid journaler too. I have been journaling since I was a pre-teen. Journaling is so therapeutic and liberating.
