Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan McCracken.
Logan, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Tattooing was always a goal that felt just out of reach. Being a woman in an industry that’s always been dominated by men- where they dictate how much you can learn and the chances you’re given. Many times I found myself working in shops where my labor was being taken advantage of with false promises or my looks being a determining factor in the quality of my learning. Finally in 2019 I met one of the most incredible women who would later go on to teach me to tattoo and open so many doors for me in my life and career.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I was young and more naive I
had jumped at any opportunity to break into the industry. There’s no formal schooling or certification for tattooing. Everything is solely based on who you know, your skill, and your reputation. It took several apprenticeships to finally land somewhere that I could be shown properly how to do my job and be respected at the same time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Being a part of this shop is something that I will never stop being grateful for. So many nights we would spend dreaming about having an inclusive and warm space for us, our friends, and clients. When given the opportunity to take over such an established and historic space, it wears impossible not to say yes to our own manifesto.
