Community Highlights: Meet Jo Conyers of MiniMix Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jo Conyers. 

Hi Jo, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2011, I launched my first children’s event planning business called Jojo Beanz Spartiez LLC. JBSpartiez was also mobile however, our specialty was spa parties for little girls aged 4-12 or as I coined the term, “spartiez”. 

After being in business for some time and becoming more known throughout the Baltimore and DMV area, we began to receive multiple requests to do children’s events overall, outside of just spa parties. 

After a few years, I finally decided to expand and JBSpartiez became MiniMix Studio in early 2017. 

I decided to go with the name “MiniMix Studio” because we offer a mix of services for all minis! We are no longer limited to just spa parties and offer everything from custom favors to full-blown planning and hosting services for any type of children’s event. 

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been plenty of struggles. Running your own business requires a lot of sacrifices, time management, and patience. I have gone through a lot of trial and error trying to figure out what works best for my brand. Now that I’m a mom, my main struggle is trying to find a healthy balance between running a successful business and still remaining present and fully active in my children’s lives. I have a five-year-old son and a two-year-old daughter. 

We’ve been impressed with MiniMix Studio LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MiniMix Studio LLC is a children’s event planning business. We chose the name “MiniMix” because we offer a mix of services tailored to create unique, memorable experiences for all of our clients and their minis. We can bring any theme to life however, our specialty is children’s teepee slumber parties, toddler soft play parties, spa parties, tea parties, picnics, custom vinyl backdrops, event favors, apparel, and décor. 

Our team of MiniMixers works together to creatively execute unique and intimate children’s events. We plan each event from start to finish. We also work with many talented vendors such as entertainers, caterers, bakers, venues, rentals, balloon stylists, and decorators. We are currently a mobile business and based out of Baltimore, MD. We service the entire DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) area as well as some parts of Pennsylvania and Delaware. We also ship our products throughout the United States. 

We are passionate about our minis! Our goal is to deliver memorable, unique experiences that will last a lifetime. We strive to bring all of our clients and their mini’s visions to life. We approach each project with a creative spirit, a bright smile, and a positive attitude. 

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The most important lesson that I’ve learned since the pandemic is that one needs to always capitalize off of their talents and abilities as well as means of creating multiple streams of income. You never know when something like a pandemic will occur and the entire world basically shuts down. Still being able to generate income during a global crisis is very important.
