Community Highlights: Meet Janelle Williams of Organized by JWC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Williams.

Hi Janelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
When I completed my undergraduate degree in 2001 my intent was to attend Physical Therapy school to obtain a Doctorate degree, but after deferring my acceptance for a year I decided not to attend. Years later after becoming a wife and mom, I finally decided to pursue my graduate degree and landed a position in the Public Health field.

I later made the difficult decision to resign from that position to be more available for my family. I knew that I wanted to start my own business but didn’t know what that would look like. A few months after I left the position, I attended a business conference that gave me the inspiration I needed to pursue entrepreneurship.

I’ve always had a love and gift for organizing spaces but never thought about pursuing it as a business until I attended that conference. Through the guidance of a business coach and the encouragement from my family and friends, I decided to pursue a Professional Organizing business. Organized by JWC was established in 2016 to help busy professionals, families, and small business owners create personalized systems/strategies to simplify their spaces and increase efficiency.

I believe that our homes should be our place of retreat and my goal is to help my clients achieve this.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the initial stages of my business, I struggled with constantly comparing myself to other Professional Organizers who had been in the industry for years. I felt overwhelmed by the “business” of having a business and doubted my talents; I’ve probably talked myself into quitting on numerous occasions.

I think I was even fearful of actually being successful! Those first few months were torture feeling like I needed to explore every option for clientele, now we consistently have a waitlist of clients. Even though those beginning stages were not always smooth, they have paid off tremendously.

Whenever I doubted my ability, I would get an email or client that would solidify my why and give me the encouragement I needed to continue.

As you know, we’re big fans of Organized by JWC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Organized by JWC is a Professional Organizing company that helps you declutter and create personalized systems to simplify your home, business, and life. As a Professional Organizer, my goal is to create a peaceful, functional, and beautiful space for my clients, in addition to teaching you how to implement easy steps that will simplify your space and, ultimately, your life.

Essentially, I help you reclaim your space and your time! We offer both virtual and in-home services, as well as virtual or in-person workshops.

In addition, I’m the author of, 5 Essential Steps to Organize Your Home in Seven Days, which walks readers through a 5-step process of understanding the why to disorganization and then teaches you how to create sustainable systems that work. Becoming an author has allowed me to marry my education in Public Health with my passion for organized spaces.

If you are looking for a realistic and systematic approach to conquering the clutter, we are here to support you!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I did not have a mentor but I had a business coach and community that supported me through the early stages of my business. I believe that having that community of like-minded business women helped propel my business to where it is today. They were not only a source of encouragement but provided constructive feedback for my business.

I believe that we can’t grow in silos; Having a community, mentor or coach is a great opportunity for you to learn and grow in areas where you may not have the expertise. This has been a game-changer for me!
