Hakan came to New York over 10 years ago and started working as a pedicab driver in Central Park as a way to put himself through school, and make money.
Through working as a pedicab driver, he was able to identify a market for bike rentals in Central Park and opened up his first location in 2010. Starting with 50 bicycles in 2010, Unlimited Biking has since grown to have over 4,000 bicycles, and expanded nationally – with locations in NY, SF, DC, and VA.
Within a span of 10 years, Unlimited Biking has become the market leader for all bike-related experiences! Partnered with major bike event organizers, Unlimited Biking is the choice for event-goers to rent from to save them the hassle of having to bring their own bike.
Heavily invested in the travel and trade industry, Hakan focused on making sure that the company was the choice for all visitors coming to the cities that Unlimited Biking operated in.
Providing everything that guests needed from high-quality bikes, helmets, locks, and making it family-friendly by providing attachments, guests should have to bring the desire to explore each city.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
During the pandemic, Unlimited Biking was fortunate enough to be in the bike business, which was able to sustain itself through pure demand from locals looking to get outside.
We started the ‘Ride It Out Program’ that matched our monthly bike rental rates to the rates of public transportation in each city so that guests would have the option to bike as a mode of transportation instead of just taking the train or busses.
There were definitely hardships with international travel closing as a majority of the business was dependent on them. As business returns, Unlimited Biking is seeing not only guests from the local market but the international market as well.
