Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Barbara Sharp.
Hi Dr. Barbara, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey began with a wound I didn’t fully understand—I was born unwanted, and that early experience shaped much of my life. For years I worked different jobs, raised my daughters, and carried unspoken pain. Then, at age 50, after much prayer and insight from those around me, I took a step of faith and began my academic journey. That one step of obedience changed everything.
I earned my master’s and later my PhD, focusing my research on the lived experiences of people born from unwanted pregnancies. Their stories mirrored my own and helped me understand the generational patterns that had followed my family for decades.
From that work came my calling: to blend psychology with faith and help people heal the hidden wounds that shape their identity. That calling birthed my books and my nonprofit, I Wish You Well, Inc., where I focus on emotional restoration, purpose, and community support. I now have an upcoming book, The Womb Remembers, which expands this message of healing even further.
Today, I use both my story and my training to help others discover freedom, wholeness, and the truth of who they really are.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Much of my journey has been shaped by early rejection, trauma, and the emotional patterns that come from being born unwanted. Those wounds followed me into adulthood, affecting my relationships, my confidence, and even my sense of identity.
There were seasons when I felt lost, discouraged, or unsure of my purpose. Returning to school at age 50 came with its own challenges—balancing family responsibilities, coursework, and the emotional work of confronting my own story. Writing about these experiences also required courage, because sharing deeply personal truths as a social worker is not always encouraged or understood.
Yet every struggle became part of my healing. The challenges taught me resilience, pushed me closer to God, and shaped the message I now share through my books and my nonprofit. My road has been difficult, but it has also been redemptive.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I Wish You Well, Inc. is a holistic-informed mental health organization dedicated to healing deep emotional wounds—especially those connected to early trauma, rejection, and identity. We offer trauma-informed counseling, emotional wellness support, and spaces where people can rediscover their worth and rewrite the parts of their story that were never nurtured.
What sets us apart is our integration of clinical insight and faith, grounded in both professional training and my own healing journey. This is reflected in my upcoming book The Womb Remembers and my other works on Amazon, including Mara’s Story, Cast Not Away Your Confidence, and I Will Turn Your Captivity.
Brand-wise, I am most proud that we see the whole person. We don’t reduce people to diagnoses—we walk with them toward healing, identity restoration, and lasting transformation.
For readers, I want you to know this:
Healing is possible. Identity can be restored. And your story can change—no matter how it began.
That is the heart of I Wish You Well, Inc.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In my industry, I see a major shift happening over the next 5–10 years. People are no longer satisfied with surface-level coping strategies—they’re looking for root-level healing. I believe mental health care will move toward approaches that address early trauma, identity, and generational patterns, not just symptoms.
We’ll also see more holistic-informed care, where emotional, psychological, and faith-based insights work together. And clients are increasingly drawn to providers who bring both clinical expertise and authentic lived experience. That’s a direction I’ve already embraced through my books and through my upcoming YouTube channel, Trauma Care Tuesdays, where I’ll be teaching on trauma, identity, and emotional healing in a very accessible way.
Overall, the future of our field is moving toward deeper understanding, greater transparency, and true transformation—not just temporary relief.
