Community Highlights: Meet Cameron Moore of Bossy Beauty Services By Cameron

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Moore

Hi Cameron, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my hair styling journey during the COVID-19 pandemic. It started with practicing/styling my own hair, then gradually extended to friends and family. As the pandemic started to ease, I returned to school and began marketing my services more actively on campus. After graduating and landing a full-time job, styling hair became a side hustle. When I was unexpectedly let go from my full-time position, I took it as a sign and a source of motivation to fully dedicate myself to growing my business and brand. That year was a turning point—it allowed me to gain new clients, increase my income, enhance my skills, and market my services through social media. This led to brand collaborations and new opportunities with other businesses. Less than a year ago, I relocated to Baltimore, where I’m continuing to grow my hair business and expand my entrepreneurial journey, while working full- time in marketing.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth, and there have certainly been struggles along the way.

One of the biggest challenges has been avoiding burnout. As an entrepreneur, it’s easy to get caught up in the hustle, but I’ve had to learn the importance of self-care and maintaining balance.

When I first started, my skills weren’t where I wanted them to be, but I quickly realized that practice truly makes perfect. Through dedication and consistent practice, I was able to improve my technique and build confidence in my work.

Another hurdle was getting my brand name out there and defining my business identity. Marketing and promoting my services took time, and finding a way to communicate my brand effectively has been an ongoing process.

On the backend, staying organized has been crucial. Managing everything from client appointments to finances, goal planning, and content creation required a lot of effort to streamline.

Financing has also been a challenge. As with any business, there’s always the pressure of managing expenses and investing in growth. It’s been a constant balancing act.

Finally, navigating content creation and social media marketing strategies has been both a learning curve and an opportunity. Figuring out what works best in terms of engagement and staying consistent has been key to growing my brand.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a versatile hairstylist, specializing in services like ponytails, wig installs, quick weaves, and braids, among others. What sets me apart is my ability to cater to a variety of hair needs, ensuring every client feels confident and satisfied with their look.

My content creating/ editing skills has led me to market my business different from other competitors/ hair businesses that has contributed to my social media growth and has led to content going viral.

Beyond just servicing clients behind the chair, I’ve had the opportunity to participate in creative projects, including photoshoots and fashion week events. These experiences have allowed me to showcase my skills in diverse settings and grow my artistic range.

In addition to my work with clients, I also help other hairstylists grow their brands and improve their social media marketing strategies. I believe in the power of collaboration and support within the beauty community, and I’m passionate about helping others navigate the business side of the industry.

What I’m most proud of is the decision I made to take a risk and fully invest in myself when I lost my full-time job. Instead of immediately seeking another traditional job, I chose to dedicate my energy into growing my business. That leap of faith has truly paid off, and it’s something I’m incredibly proud of. My journey is a reminder that believing in yourself and taking calculated risks can lead to great things.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned on my journey is the power of consistency. Consistency truly outweighs perfection. Progress is made through showing up and doing the work, even when things aren’t perfect.

I’ve also learned not to compare my journey to others. It’s easy to feel like you’re behind when you see others’ success, but it’s important to remember that your path is unique. Get inspired by others, but don’t feel pressured to replicate exactly what they’re doing.

Patience has been another key lesson. Success doesn’t happen overnight, and things take time. Trusting the process and staying committed is vital for long-term growth.

Networking has been crucial—your network is your net worth. I’ve made it a point to attend networking events and connect with as many people as possible. Building relationships and forming connections has opened many doors for me.

I’ve also learned the importance of staying on top of finances. Managing money well and seeking guidance when needed, like hiring a financial advisor or tax preparer, has been essential to the growth of my business.
