Community Highlights: Meet Amida Bangura of Graceful Cleaners

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amida Bangura.

Hi Amida, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Entrepreneurship has always been a part of my life. I come from a family of business owners both my mother and father built their own paths, and my father has been an entrepreneur since coming to America in the 1970s. Watching that growing up shaped how I see work, independence, and what’s possible.
Still, my own journey wasn’t easy or traditional. There was a season in my life where I struggled to find stable work due to past circumstances. It felt like doors were closed, and at times, like society tries to define you by one chapter of your life instead of your full story. But through that, I learned resilience and more importantly, I leaned heavily on my faith.
As a single mother, I knew I couldn’t give up. Through prayer, I asked God for direction, clarity, and a way forward. That’s when Graceful Cleaners began to take shape not just as a business, but as a fresh start and a form of restoration.
I took the skills I had from administrative roles organization, communication, structure and applied them to building something of my own. What started small quickly grew as I realized there was a real need for reliable, professional cleaning services done with excellence.
At a certain point, I made the decision to go all in. I trusted God through uncertainty, continued to pray through every step, and stayed committed. What once felt like limitations became part of my testimony.
Today, Graceful Cleaners provides residential, commercial, and government-aligned cleaning services. My journey is a reflection of faith, perseverance, and restoration. I truly believe that no matter what challenges you face, with God, there is always a path forward and a purpose on the other side.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. My journey has come with a lot of challenges, both personally and professionally. There was a time when I struggled to find stable employment due to past circumstances, and it often felt like certain doors were closed. Sometimes it felt like you’re being defined by one moment in your life instead of who you are becoming.
As a single mother, that pressure was even greater because I knew I had to find a way to provide and build something sustainable. There were moments of uncertainty, financial strain, and times where I had to figure things out on my own without a clear roadmap.
But through all of it, my faith kept me grounded. I leaned on prayer and trusted that God was leading me toward something greater, even when I couldn’t fully see it yet. Those difficult seasons taught me resilience, discipline, and how to keep moving forward no matter what.
Looking back now, I see that those challenges were part of my growth. They pushed me to step into entrepreneurship fully and build Graceful Cleaners into what it is today. What once felt like setbacks became part of my testimony, and I’m grateful for how everything came together.

As you know, we’re big fans of Graceful Cleaners. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The name of my business is Graceful Cleaners, a women-owned cleaning company providing residential, commercial, and government-aligned cleaning services throughout the DMV area.
We specialize in high-quality, detail-oriented cleaning solutions, including routine maintenance, deep cleaning, post-construction cleaning, and event cleaning. As we continue to grow, we are expanding further into commercial and government contracting, with a strong focus on compliance, scalability, and professional service delivery.
In addition, we are heavily involved in event services, supporting event planners and venues across the DMV area. We provide staffing for event setup and breakdown, as well as professional cleaning teams and servers to ensure events run smoothly from start to finish. This has allowed us to build strong relationships within the event industry and expand our service offerings beyond traditional cleaning.
What sets Graceful Cleaners apart is our commitment to reliability, structure, and excellence. In an industry where consistency is often lacking, we pride ourselves on clear communication, dependable service, and delivering results that clients can trust. We don’t just clean we provide organized, efficient, and professional solutions tailored to each client’s needs.
A key part of our growth has been positioning the business for government and commercial opportunities. We are a certified Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB), which allows us to pursue federal contracting opportunities and partner on set-aside projects. We are also in the process of obtaining our Minority Business Enterprise (MBE) certification, which will further expand our ability to compete for state and local contracts and build strategic partnerships.
These certifications are extremely important because they open doors to larger opportunities, provide access to supplier diversity programs, and help us build credibility within the government and commercial space. They are not just credentials they are tools that support the long-term growth and scalability of the business.
In addition, our company is rooted in faith and purpose. Graceful Cleaners was built during a challenging season in my life, and through prayer and trusting God, it has grown into something much bigger. That foundation influences how we operate with integrity, discipline, and a strong commitment to excellence.
What I’m most proud of is how the brand has evolved from a small start into a growing business that now serves a wide range of clients while creating opportunities for others. Our goal is to continue scaling, building long-term partnerships, and becoming a trusted name in both commercial and government cleaning services.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I see risk as a necessary part of growth, but for me it’s about faith and being intentional, not just taking chances.
One of the biggest risks I took was going all in on my business. As a single mother without the stability of a traditional job, it wasn’t an easy decision. But through prayer and trusting God, I stepped forward even when things felt uncertain.
I also take calculated risks as I grow expanding into commercial and government work, building teams, and taking on larger opportunities. Each step requires planning, confidence, and faith.
To me, risk isn’t about being fearless it’s about trusting the process, staying prepared, and moving forward with purpose, even when the outcome isn’t guaranteed.
