Today we’d like to introduce you to Alfonso Bruno
Hi Alfonso, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Guerrero, Mexico, surrounded by vibrant colors, hardworking people, and big dreams. Even as a kid, I always had a vision—something bigger than myself. I didn’t know exactly how I’d get there, but I knew I wanted to build something meaningful, something that would bring people together.
When I moved to the United States, it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. Everything was unfamiliar—the language, the culture, even the streets I walked on. But I was determined. I worked wherever I could, putting in long hours, learning as I went, and never losing sight of my dream.
Then I met Red. She changed everything. Not only did she share my passion for family, community, and good food, but she believed in my dream as much as I did. Together, we started imagining a place where we could welcome people like family, serve food made with quality ingredients, and keep it affordable so everyone could enjoy it.
It wasn’t easy, though. Owning a business takes more than a dream—it takes sacrifice, grit, and a lot of long nights. But when the opportunity to own Silver Moon Diner came, Red and I knew we had to go all in. From the moment we took over, we’ve poured everything into this diner—our time, energy, and hearts.
Every day, we remind ourselves why we’re here. It’s not just about food; it’s about creating a place where people feel at home. Whether it’s a family celebrating a special moment or someone stopping in for a quick meal after work, we’re here to serve more than just plates of food. We’re here to serve comfort, happiness, and a little piece of our story.
Now, when I look around the diner, I see the dream we worked so hard to build. I see people enjoying warm meals, kids laughing over pancakes, and regulars who feel more like family. This diner is more than a business to us—it’s proof that with hard work, love, and faith, you can take a dream and make it shine as brightly as the moon itself.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting fresh in the U.S. was nothing short of a battle. In Guerrero, Mexico, I grew up understanding hard work, but I never realized how much harder it would be when you’re in a place where no one knows your name or your story. Language was my first challenge. I couldn’t express myself the way I wanted, and every conversation felt like an uphill climb. Finding steady work was another hurdle. I took on whatever jobs I could, no matter how exhausting, just to keep going.
Then came the challenge of saving enough to make a dream a reality. Red and I had to stretch every dollar we earned, often sacrificing our comforts to invest in the future. When we finally took over Silver Moon Diner, the obstacles didn’t stop. Running a business came with its own struggles—keeping up with bills, learning the ins and outs of managing a restaurant, and ensuring we could serve quality food without raising prices beyond what people could afford.
There were moments of doubt, long nights, and times when it felt like the odds were stacked against us. But we pushed through. Red and I relied on each other, and our determination never wavered. Every challenge we faced taught us something, and today, those lessons are woven into the fabric of Silver Moon Diner. This isn’t just a business to us—it’s proof of how far we’ve come and what hard work and resilience can achieve.
What matters most to you? Why?
What matters to me the most is people—our family, our community, and everyone who walks through the doors of Silver Moon Diner. I’ve always believed that food is more than just a meal; it’s a way to connect, to show care, and to make someone’s day a little better. Red and I didn’t just want to own a business—we wanted to create a space where people feel valued, where families can gather, and where everyone leaves with a full belly and a smile.
Quality matters to me. I know what it’s like to work hard for every dollar, so I want every customer to feel they’re getting more than their money’s worth. That’s why we focus on using quality ingredients while keeping our prices affordable. It’s not about cutting corners—it’s about doing things right because it reflects who we are and the pride we take in our work.
But above all, it’s about heart. Every plate we serve, every kind word we exchange, and every effort we make is about gratitude. Gratitude for the chance to live this dream, for the support of our community, and for the people who believe in us. At the end of the day, seeing people enjoy what we’ve built together is what makes it all worthwhile.
