Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Morrison.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Absolutely. I’m a proud Maryland native with deep Southern roots, and food has always been part of my story. I started cooking at just seven years old, inspired by the warmth of family gatherings and the lessons I learned growing up around food and community.
Professionally, my journey began in higher education, where I developed a passion for helping others reach their potential. I later transitioned into workforce development as a Program Manager, supporting young adults in Washington, DC’s Wards 5, 7, and 8. That experience strengthened my purpose — to empower others through opportunity and mentorship.
In 2009, I followed my lifelong passion and launched Victoria’s Southern Fusion, inspired by my early experiences in the kitchen and refined through my culinary studies in Maryland and at Kendall College in Chicago. My goal has always been to blend my Southern roots with Caribbean and global influences, creating dishes that are soulful, creative, and have a healthier twist.
Over time, I realized that my love for food could do more than feed people; it could empower them. Through my business and mentorship, I use food as a bridge to inspire confidence, healing, and entrepreneurship, especially among women who’ve faced similar challenges.
Now, as I complete my doctorate, I see all of these experiences, from education, workforce development and now to culinary entrepreneurship, as part of one purpose: using food, faith, and leadership to empower others and create spaces for growth, healing, and transformation.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. As a single mom, balancing my responsibilities at home while building Victoria’s Southern Fusion, pursuing higher education, and working full-time in education and workforce development has taken a lot of discipline, faith, and resilience. There were times when resources were limited and support felt far away, but I learned how to keep going even when the path wasn’t clear.
One of the harder parts was dealing with doubt — not just from the outside world, but sometimes from people closest to me. When you’re chasing a vision that others can’t always see, it can be isolating. However, those moments pushed me to believe in myself even more and to trust the purpose God had placed within me.
Every challenge — from motherhood to business to proving myself — shaped my strength. They taught me patience, persistence, and grace, and reminded me that my journey isn’t just about success for myself, but about inspiring and empowering other women to rise above doubt as well.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At my core, I’m an artist who uses food as my medium. Through my company, Victoria’s Southern Fusion, I create dishes that honor my Southern roots while blending Caribbean and global influences — all with a healthier twist. I love reimagining traditional comfort foods in ways that feel indulgent yet nourishing, because I believe food can be both soulful and intentional.
What truly sets me apart is my food itself — the flavors are bold, delicious, and uniquely mine. Every dish tells a story of culture, resilience, and love, and I take pride in creating meals that not only taste amazing but leave people feeling connected and cared for.
Whether it’s a luxury event, intimate dinner, or curated meal prep, I approach each experience with artistry and purpose. And beyond the plate, I use my passion for food to empower and uplift others — especially women who’ve faced similar challenges — helping them see food and entrepreneurship as pathways to healing and transformation.
I’m most proud that I’ve built something that reflects both my artistry and my mission — a business rooted in flavor, authenticity, and heart.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
Absolutely — I wouldn’t be where I am today without the people and experiences that have shaped me. Growing up around food, faith, and community taught me early on the power of connection, creativity, and service — values that continue to guide everything I do.
My Dad, who’s a Pastor, has always been my number one fan. His example of faith, discipline, and consistency continues to inspire how I lead and serve. My children are truly my rock — they keep me grounded and motivated, and they remind me daily why I do what I do. Their love and resilience push me to keep striving for excellence and to build something lasting for them.
I’m also grateful for a small circle of true friends who genuinely see me, support me, and cheer me on — especially my good friend Sarah, who believed in me enough to nominate me for this opportunity. Their encouragement reminds me that the right people will always recognize and pour into your purpose.
And honestly, life itself has been one of my greatest teachers. The lessons I’ve learned — through faith, experience, and even failure — have helped me grow both as a woman and as an entrepreneur. Applying those lessons with grace and perseverance has played a huge role in the success of Victoria’s Southern Fusion and in shaping the person I am today.
